Warner Bros has released the newest trailer for the James Gunn-directed “Superman.” Starring David Corenswet as the Kyrptonian orphan who is known to Earthlings as the Man of Steel, Rachel Brosnahan as the Kryptonian journalist Lois Lane, and Nicholas Hoult as the megalomaniacal Lex Luthor, the film marks a new beginning for a DC universe that is trying to move away from what Zack Snyder had attempted to create.
The new Superman trailer doesn’t just promise epic flight sequences or a brooding Clark Kent — it throws viewers straight into the messy, uncomfortable space between savior and superpower. Sure we get to see him fight kaijus and villains with high-tech weaponary, but we also get to see him fight against those who see him as a threat despite the fact that he has taken it upon himself to end wars and other global conflicts.
However, there are still a few questions that only the film can answer. Like how will other heroes like Guy Gardner (Nathan Fillion), Hawkgirl (Isabela Merced), Metamorpho (Anthony Carrigan) and Mister Terrific (Edi Gathegi) respond to Superman’s actions as he acts independently on a global stage. How has the dynamics between himself and Lois and Lex have changed? And, more importantly, how will Krypto change what we know about Superman and his most faithful canine companion.
While the trailer itself doesn’t have a lot to offer in terms of plot, we know that James Gunn takes on the original superhero in the newly imagined DC universe will surely have his singular blend of epic action, humor and heart to deliver a Superman who’s driven by compassion and an inherent belief in the goodness of humankind.
The film also stars Skyler Gisondo (“Licorice Pizza,” “Booksmart”), Sara Sampaio (“At Midnight”), María Gabriela de Faría (“The Moodys”), Wendell Pierce (“Selma,” “Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan”), Alan Tudyk (“Andor”), Pruitt Taylor Vince (“Bird Box”) and Neva Howell (“Greedy People”).
DC Studios heads Peter Safran and Gunn are producing the film, which Gunn directs from his own screenplay, based on characters from DC, Superman created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster. “Superman” is executive produced by Nikolas Korda, Chantal Nong Vo and Lars Winther. Behind the camera, Gunn is joined by frequent collaborators, including director of photography Henry Braham, production designer Beth Mickle, costume designer Judianna Makovsky and composer John Murphy, along with composer David Fleming (“The Last of Us”) and editors William Hoy (“The Batman”) and Craig Alpert (“Deadpool 2,” “Blue Beetle”).
“Superman” hits theaters on July 11, 2025.
