Disney has released the first trailer for Marvel Studios’ “Ironheart.” The series, starring Dominique Thorne as Riri Williams, the series is set Black Panther: Wakanda Forever where Riri returns to her Chicago stomping grounds, hellbent on building more than just a legacy, she wants to build the next best suit of armor on her own terms. But when she crosses paths with Parker Robbins—a.k.a. The Hood, played with slick, smoky charm by Anthony Ramos—her world of science gets tangled in a new realm of mysticism. It’s magic vs. machine, and Riri’s caught right at the spark point.
The long-awaited Black Panther: Wakanda Forever series is the product child of Ryan Coogler, who directed both films, and sees Chinaka Hodge serving as head writer with episodes directed by Sam Bailey and Angela Barnes.
While the show does draw its inspiration from the likes of Iron Man, it’s exporation of forging an identity without the mentor that started it all makes it similar to Spider-Man as well. Despite that, “Ironheart” is very much going to be it’s own thing and have it’s own identity, one that reflects the cultural specifities of the Black community. Riri is a STEM girl from the South Side who is seen as a naturally gifted talent rather than an anomaly. Additionally, we’ll get to hear the echoes of Wakanda mixed in with trapbeats. The music is by Music is by Dara Taylor. And, most importantly, the new series is produced in association with Proximity Media – a multimedia company founded by Ryan Coogler, Zinzi Coogler and Sev Ohanian, and co-founded by Ludwig Göransson, Archie Davis and Peter Nicks.
The series also stars Lyric Ross, Alden Ehrenreich, Regan Aliyah, Manny Montana, Matthew Elam and Anji White.
“Ironheart” launches on Disney+ June 24, 2025.
