Being the mom of two girls, sometimes the speed at which they’re growing up needs to be put on hold, even if it’s only for a few hours. They’re surrounded by kids at school, bombarded by TV shows and songs on the radio, and live lives that aren’t anywhere near as innocent as I wish they were. But still, I try to find ways to slow them down…keep them grounded and let them still play, like the little girls who I know they still are.
My girls are dramatic, free-spirited, strong, proud, loyal, kind, brave, fair, and sassy. This is exactly why I’m such a huge fan of American Girl dolls, their magazine and awesome line of books and now, their American Girl Crafts Party Collection. The Party Collection has tons of fantastic, creative activities that are sure to please every girl you know, and the prices ranging from $2.99 – $29.99 are pleasing to my wallet as well. They have an assortment of invitations, goody bags that you can personalize and matching thank you cards for girls and their dolls, paper products, and crafts galore. One of our favorites was the Owl Stuff and Sew Kit (one for you, one for your doll), but we loved checking out all sorts of jewelry making options, tote kits, finger nail stickers, sparkly markers and craft kits. I put the girls to work, setting up the paper decorations, goody bags and cupcake boxes and they gave it two thumbs up on the easy scale. I did one sample for them, and definitely agree – the pieces are easy to assemble for the 8+ crowd. Younger girls might need some help with double sided stickers, or folding the paper decorations, but they have a lot of creative license and the personalizing while putting everything together was as fun frosting the cupcakes!
With birthday parties and play dates too frequently turning into spending contests, or time watching videos online, it’s nice to have a few close friends over, and make any occasion something special. An American Girl themed party was right up our alley, so the Emily wrote out invitations to her friends, and their dolls, and we got ready for the fun to begin. Punch was in the fridge, cupcakes were made and the girls got to have a very sweet, very innocent afternoon with their friends, playing with dolls, and not worrying so much about how cool they were.
The American Girl Crafts Party Collection is fun, affordable (especially if you’re a coupon clipper like me), and lets girls be girls…imaginative, sweet, playful, girls, just like I always dreamed I’d have when I played house.
