Hold on to your popcorn! 4DX is not your regular theater! Expect an immersive movie experience! 4DX is an exciting option for families. My family watched Toy Story 4 on it’s opening weekend at Regal LA Live and we encountered Woody and the gang like we’ve never done before. First off, Toy Story 4 might be my favorite in the series and seeing it in a 4DX theater really took it to the next level. If you are a dad with back pain, I might skip this option but your kids will have a blast while the experience motion and weather simulation throughout the film.
We haven’t seen much rain in SoCal but expect to get drizzled on during a few scenes of the film (just a tip, you can turn the water feature off- There is a button on the right arm of your chair). Toy Story 4 is filled with action sequences so moviegoers will experience bumps, vibrations, motions as well as wind and other weather. I love the scenes with Duke Caboom where his stunts have us heaving and feeling the sense of free falling (it’s manageable, not like the sensations of a roller coaster). There are moments where scents are used for the film. Smell flowers? You just might!
Should you try it out? Sure! Tickets cost more than regular cinema but prices are on par with IMAX. You are definitely paying for the experience. Its fun and with the right movie you could compare the experience to a theme park ride. You laugh as you bounce around with characters of Toy Story 4. Your chair is part of row that’s on hydraulics. I’m prone to motion sickness but I didn’t have to worry about that here. Eating and drinking might be a little of a challenge since the seats are raised up and it’s hard to reach the floor but I definitely recommend your first 4DX movie be Toy Story 4. The 4DX effects worked well with this movie and made it an enjoyable cinematic experience for me and my family.
