What’s really in the sewers beneath us? LAIKA’s third feature length film tells the story of underground dwellers, a community of creatures who collect trash and raise an orphan human boy as one of their own. The Boxtrolls live deep below the town of Cheesebridge, only to appear at night, crawling out of manholes and sewer doors dressed in only a box. The town is obsessed with (any guesses??) cheese and class structure.
I had the fortunate experience of visiting LAIKA earlier this year (check that off my bucket list) and what I saw in Portland was extraordinary! I’ve also met with film makers and screened about 30 minutes of footage from the film. I’m.Kinda.Sorta.Speechless: 3D Stop motion, CG, amazing cast of voice actors and a unique story line is everything I would want in a movie.
Stay tuned to this outlet as I roll out more information about The Boxtrolls and for now, please enjoy this wicked, magical movie trailer of LAIKA’s The Boxtrolls.
I can’t wait to see the entire film!
Story: A family event movie from the creators of “Coraline” and “ParaNorman” that introduces audiences to a new breed of family – The Boxtrolls, a community of quirky, mischievous creatures who have lovingly raised an orphaned human boy named Eggs (voiced by Isaac Hempstead-Wright) in the amazing cavernous home they’ve built beneath the streets of Cheesebridge. When the town’s villain, Archibald Snatcher (Academy Award winner Ben Kingsley), comes up with a plot to get rid of the Boxtrolls, Eggs decides to venture above ground, “into the light,” where he meets and teams up with fabulously feisty Winnifred (Elle Fanning). Together, they devise a daring plan to save Eggs’ family.
