Hulu has released the first trailer for the new holiday romantic comedy “Happiest Season.” The film was initially set for a theatrical release earlier this year. But when the Coronavirus pandemic hit, the holiday rom-com, from director Clea DuVall starring Kristen Stewart and Mackenzie Davis, was then acquired by Hulu. But for those outside the USA, the film will be released in the traditional theatrical format.
In the film, Harper (Davis) and Abby (Stewart) make for a happy pair that are madly in love with each other. But that is put into question when Abby learns that Harper has been keeping the relationship a secret from her parents.
Here’s the official plot synopsis for Happiest Season:
‘Meeting your girlfriend’s family for the first time can be tough. Planning to propose at her family’s annual Christmas dinner — until you realize that they don’t even know she’s gay — is even harder. When Abby (Kristen Stewart) learns that Harper (Mackenzie Davis) has kept their relationship a secret from her family, she begins to question the girlfriend she thought she knew. HAPPIEST SEASON is a holiday romantic comedy that hilariously captures the range of emotions tied to wanting your family’s acceptance, being true to yourself, and trying not to ruin Christmas.’
“Happiest Season” seems to have all of the makings of the modern-day holiday romantic comedy. I like the irony of Victor Garber and Mary Steenburgen playing as Harper’s ultra-conservative parents. The addition of Dan Levy, playing as Abby’s supportive best friend helping her through the process also makes for some hilarious moments.
Alison Brie and Aubrey Plaza also star.
Directed by DuVall, using a script co-written by her Mary Holland. Story by Clea DuVall. “Happiest Season” is produced by Marty Bowen and Isaac Klausner, with Wyck Godfrey and Jonathan McCoy serving as executive producers.
“Happiest Season” debuts exclusively on Hulu on November 25, 2020.
