It’s been 15 years since the release of “Enchanted.” The live-action and animated fantasy musical brought the love and joy of everything we love about the Disney princess archetype but put a modern-day twist on it by bringing that princess into the real world. The result is a sweet homage and parody of the typical Disney animated musical. Now, Disney is releasing a sequel appropriately titled “Disenchanted. In it, Giselle (Amy Adams) has adapted to her new role as a mother and wife of a family, moving from the big city to suburbia. And the ThatsITLA team had a chance to attend the big screening of the first trailer at the D23 Expo this past weekend.
“Well, Giselle still has all of the love and joy that we know about Giselle, but she now finds herself in a slightly different position as a mother of an infant and a teenager and the wife who is looking to find her way in the world with these new roles,” Adams said. “And with all the love and the joy, she tries to move forward. Maybe not always in the best way, but always with the best intentions.”
Patrick Dempsey, Idina Menzel, and James Marsden reprise their respective roles. And they will be joined by Maya Rudolph plays Malvina Monroe, the local queen bee who makes Giselle’s life frustrating. The film also stars Yvette Nicole Brown and Jayma Mays, two of Malvina’s friends. Gabriella Baldacchino plays Giselle’s daughter.
Directed by Adam Shankman from a screenplay by Brigitte Hales and a story by J. David Stem & David N, “Disenchanted” features songs with music by 8-time Oscar®-winning composer Alan Menken and lyrics by three-time Oscar-winning lyricist Stephen Schwartz, whose work on “Enchanted” garnered three Academy Award® nominations and a score by Alan Menken. The movie debuts exclusively on Disney+ on November 24, 2022.

Here’s the official plot synopsis for “Disenchanted:” It has been 15 years since Giselle (Amy Adams) and Robert (Patrick Dempsey) wed, but Giselle has grown disillusioned with life in the city, so they move their growing family to the sleepy suburban community of Monroeville in search of a more fairy tale life. Unfortunately, it isn’t the quick fix she had hoped for. Suburbia has a whole new set of rules and a local queen bee, Malvina Monroe (Maya Rudolph), who makes Giselle feel more out of place than ever. Frustrated that her happily ever after hasn’t been so easy to find, she turns to the magic of Andalasia for help, accidentally transforming the entire town into a real-life fairy tale and placing her family’s future happiness in jeopardy. Now, Giselle is in a race against time to reverse the spell and determine what happily ever after truly means to her and her family.Original cast of Enchanted are here to talk about Disenchanted!
