Pancakes for dinner? Yes, please! Breakfast foods for dinner is always a fun way to mix meal time. My daughter calls it backwards day which has a Cat in the Hat feel to it. Our recent “breakfast night” was courtesy of Krusteaz. Krusteaz sent us a cool kit filled with their pancake and waffle mixes, a pancake griddle, squeeze bottle and more. The squeeze bottle ignited an idea. We decided to create “art” with our pancakes.
Pancake art is a fun, easy cooking “craft” for the entire family. Safety definitely comes first! So make sure the kids are careful around hot stuff, like the griddle. We whipped up the pancake mix and poured it into two squeeze bottles (I actually had two of my own! You can also reuse a clean empty ketchup bottle.) I wanted a darker shade of pancake, which I created by adding a tablespoon of hot cocoa to my batter. Plus, I liked the chocolately flavor it gave the pancakes. Turn the flame on low as the pancakes will cook fast. Draw out your shape and flip once one side turns golden brown. We took turns creating our designs, and my husband created his own characters.
Our breakfast night was not only delicious, but also a fun activity to do as a family. Weekends are usually when we have Breakfast Dinners. We’ve also created Mickey Mouse-shaped pancakes, as well as mini-sized pancakes for an afternoon tea party. My husband likes to create a pancake sandwich filled with sausages and eggs.
We’re not the only ones who enjoy Breakfast Night. Krusteaz says its employees celebrate every Wednesday evening. I think we’ll start that tradition, but on a weekend night. In a recent survey, Krustez found that 90 percent of Americans say that they eat breakfast for dinner. Another fun fact is that 30 percent of families make Breakfast Night a weekly occurrence.
From now on our pantry will always be stocked with Krusteaz pancake mix. My daughter is the official pancake maker. She follows the simple steps on the box, and the pancakes are always light and yummy!
