The SpongeBob SquarePants franchise has proven itself to be so popular that it deserves not only movies but other spinoff series as well. And as it continues to expand, fans get to see the title character tell new stories from different perspectives. So for their latest spinoff, “Kamp Koral: SpongeBob’s Under Years,” the prequel show explores the childhood of the SpongeBob and his friends before he started living in the pineapple under the sea.
That’s It LA was fortunate enough to sit down and chat with Tom Kenny (voice of SpongeBob) and Bill Fagerbakke (voice of Patrick Star) to talk about the upcoming series and the impact it has on the legacy of the franchise, and that its like to voice the same characters but through a different animation lens.
Here’s the official plot synopsis for “Kamp Koral: SpongeBob the Under Years:”
If you’ve ever wondered how tuned up the antics could get if Spongebob Squarepants has a child twist to it you’re in luck and Kamp Koral: Spongebob’s Under Years is perfect for you.
To support the new project the voice actors who provide voice performances for Spongebob Squarepants and Patrick Star, Tom Kenny and Bill Fagerbakke spent some time chatting with me for a bit.
They spoke a lot of the reasons they enjoy Kamp Koral: Spongebob’s Under Years, the other adventures they would like to see the young versions of their characters, and the two explain why the dialogue is more important than the pitch of the voice when it comes to expressing age.
SpongeBob actor Tom Kenny himself expressed that they jokingly refer to the series of shows as the SBU or the SpongeBob Universe, inspired by the MCU. He also explains how much he loves his job and that every day is different because there are Kamp Koral as well as the Patrick Star show both happening in addition to the main series.
It’s an incredibly fun chat with two charismatic and intensely fun individuals (three if you count me) and it was legendary to speak with both of them. You guys are going to really love this one so grab the popcorn and kick those legs up, you’re headed to Bikini Bottom!
Season one of “Kamp Koral: SpongeBob’s Under Years” is now available wherever DVDs are sold.
