The Science Behind Pixar tour has stopped at the wonderful California Science Center in Los Angeles. The exhibit was developed by the Museum of Science in Boston in partnership with Pixar Studios to give fans of all ages the opportunity to get a unique behind-the-scenes look at Pixar’s film-making process.
I have been fortunate to visit Pixar campus in Emeryville, CA. Meeting some of the creative forces behind Monsters University as well as Inside Out was truly an inspiration. Pixar is definitely a leader in the animation field, employing strong creative minds resulting in awarding-winning animations. If you are fascinated by their work or have ever wondered, “How did they do that?” this exhibit will quell your curiosities. I was delighted to attend a preview with my daughter for some hands-on fun!
The exhibit begins in a theater where Roz from “Monsters, Inc.” and Mr. Ray from “Finding Nemo,” along with a couple Pixar employees share the areas that follow Pixar’s pipeline including modeling, rigging, surfaces and lighting. More than 40 exhibits at Science Center are ready to be explored. You will definitely take some photos with the large characters in the exhibit. I was thrilled to see one of my favorite robots, Wall-E, on display.
The exhibit was developed to highlight Science, Technology, Engineering, Math (Stem) concepts used at Pixar. Children can walk through the various sections for a wonderful introduction to the world of animation as well as unknowingly learning lessons in STEM.
The Science Behind Pixar is a wonderful experience especially for young people who are interested in pursuing a career in this field or just for a child to manipulate some of their favorite Pixar characters. Or if you’ve been living under a rock and are not familiar with Pixar films, this is a terrific introduction to the Pixar process.
As expected, the end of the exhibit takes you to the gift shop! Just be warned once you leave the exhibit you can’t return.
Admission to the California Science Center is free but a timed ticket needs to be purchased to enter the exhibit. Schedule a day at the California Science Center with the family. There’s so much to see and do here and it’s easy to get lost in the many exhibits at the museum.
The Science Behind Pixar exhibit isn’t here until “Infinity and beyond!” so plan your visit before April 9, 2017 which is when it heads to Philadelphia. For more information please visit http://californiasciencecenter.org/.
