Netflix is making sure that we haven’t forgotten about “Stranger Things.” And how could we with that cliffhanger of an ending and all of the exciting (and scary) new adventures teased in the trailers. Though its unclear what the Upside Down has in store for the Hawkins kids, we know it can’t be good, especially when words like “war” and “loss” are thrown into the mix. But as we approach the release of Part I of Stranger Things 4, we are getting a sense of what to expect. And with a brand new trailer, it appears that our patience will be rewarded tenfold.
With the first three seasons celebrating generational nostalgia and classic kid-friendly sci-fi adventures like “E.T.: The Extra Terrestrial” and “Close Encounters of the Third Kind,” “Stranger Things 4” represents a shift as it moves closer to the 80 slasher horrors. And who better to be the face of that change than Freddy Kreuger himself, Robert Englund.
And while the show itself has seemed to move on from the destructive events of season 3, with Eleven (Bobby Millie Brown) and the Byers family relocating far from Hawkins, Indiana. But there are other surprises that await them. Of course, the biggest one being that Hopper (David Harbour) is still alive. He’s appears to be shot and beat up, but still very uch alive in a Russian gulag. As he endures physical torment, he and his fellow prisoners are seen fighting a Demogorgon.
But it appears that the Upside Down is not quite down with any of the kids, especially El. And then there’s Max (Sadie Sink), who we see visiting her brother’s (Dacre Montgomery) grave after he sacrificed himself to save Hawkins from Mindflyer controlled self. Here, the trailer teases his guitar riffing return, and the fact that Max also has some powers of her own. Powers that El seems to have lost.
But that’s not all. The trailer also teases a younger El, whose powers aren’t nearly as refined as she is seen bleeding from her eyes and ears. In another scene, El is seen blasting soldiers away from her.
