The new Sonic 2 movie poster pays homage to the games that inspired the film adaptation the only way a true movie marketing campaign it can. A look at the entire cast of characters heroes including Sonic (Ben Schwartz) and Tails (Colleen O’Shaughnessey), allies (James Marsden and Tika Sumpter), and adversaries like Knuckles (Idris Elba) within the center of a golden ring – a common item needed to be collected by the hero in the game -, with the villainous Dr. Robotnik (Jim Carrey) dangerously looming overhead. And in the corner, the all-powerful Chaos Emerald – another powerful item sought out by the major villains of the game franchise.
And on the sides of this poster, a blue and red hint layered over a temple like structure where the emerald is most likely located. This most likely hints at the “Indiana Jones” action-adventure vibes that “Sonic 2” wants to emulate. Of course, having that classic bi-plane also helps capture the spirit of those films and the genre.
Here’s the official plot synopsis:
The world’s favorite blue hedgehog is back for a next-level adventure in SONIC THE HEDGEHOG 2. After settling in Green Hills, Sonic is eager to prove he has what it takes to be a true hero. His test comes when Dr. Robotnik returns, this time with a new partner, Knuckles, in search for an emerald that has the power to destroy civilizations. Sonic teams up with his own sidekick, Tails, and together they embark on a globe-trotting journey to find the emerald before it falls into the wrong hands.
Shemar Moore, Natasha Rothwell, Adam Pally, and Lee Majdoub also star.
“Sonic 2” opens in theaters on April 8, 2022.
