The Cat in the Hat: Knows A lot about Christmas!
Synopsis: Featuring Martin Short as the voice of the Cat in the Hat! ‘Twas the day before Christmas and all through the yard, the Cat in the Hat and his guests partied hard. When the party was over, and the guests all departed one poor baby reindeer was left broken-hearted! Can the Cat in the Hat, Sally, Nick and the Fish help make come true little Ralph’s Christmas wish? To be with his family, in far-off Freeze-Your-Knees. Will you help see him home? Come be our guests, please! Approx. run time 60 minutes.
Our thoughts: My kids love the Cat in the Hat book (who doesn’t?!), but this was their first exposure to the animated series. They enjoyed the adventure the characters went on to make Ralph’s wish come true. I love Dr. Seuss’s imagination and to see it ‘come to life’ in my kids’ eyes is a magical moment, from the souped-up sleigh/car/plane to the “Vest-a-ma-bobbers”. They also loved watching Thing 1 and Thing 2 helping out.
Word World: Happy Holidays WordFriends
Synopsis: This DVD comes with two episodes with total run time of 33 minutes.
“The Christmas Star”
It’s the night before Christmas and FROG needs a star to hang on his Christmas tree. DUCK thinks this will be the perfect present for FROG, and tries to lasso one out of the sky for him. Try as he might, DUCK is unable to catch a start for FROG, and cries himself to sleep. But while he sleeps, someone leaves him a wonderful present: the letters S-T-A-R.
“A Christmas Present for DOG”
It’s Christmas morning, and all the WordFriends are excited by the presents Santa has brought for them! PIG has a sled, BEAR has a doll, and ant has a cookie. But not all the letters for DOG’s present come down his chimney. All he has is a B-A-L. BEAR gets filled with the Christmas spirit and makes a sacrifice to ensure DOG’s Christmas will be merry!
Our thoughts: My kids love WordWorld, so this was sure to be a hit in our house! I love the focus on letter recognition and spelling. Thank goodness the theme of “A Christmas Present for DOG” was about giving, as it’s easy for my kids to lose sight of this and focus on the receiving!
Synopsis: Follow the adventures of paleontologist-in-training Dan Henderson as he imagines dinosaurs into the real world! Joint Dan as he learns what might have cased the extinction of the dinosaurs, tracks down a Euoplocephalus and gives the poem “The Night Before Christmas” a dinosaur spin. Dan uses the scientific method to gather clues nd solve mysteries. ‘Twas a Dinosaur is filled with five action-packed adventures full of discovery. Approx. run time 60 minutes.
Our Thoughts: We’ve never seen Dino Dan until this DVD and…..WOW! I wasn’t sure if a non-animated show would hold their attention. However, Dino Dan has enough of an animated element, along with being a subject matter both my 2.5 and 5.5 year olds really enjoyed it that this wasn’t an issue. A giant T.Rex pulling the sleigh instead of a dozen reindeer was a fun alternative, too!
Synopsis: Meet Milo, the yellow lab, and all of his puppy friends as they throw an hour-long puppy party! With over 25 breeds and hundreds of adorable puppies both and kids and adults will love the hilarious puppy antics and heartwarming moments. Incredible facts about each breed are presented, too. For example, did you know that packs of dachsunds once hunted wild boar on the edges of the German forests?
Our thoughts: My in-laws are 2nd generation pet shop owners, so caring for animals are in their blood. My kids love watching the puppies snuggle post-party. Just watch out, as the kids may be asking for a puppy next Christmas!
The Wiggles: It’s Always Christmas With You
Synopsis: Join the Wiggles on their around-the-world holiday adventure! Travel across three continents, from Australia to New York City to Ireland, to learn how Christmas is celebrated. Sing along with 14 holiday hits, and dance your way through Jingle Bell Rock with Dorothy the Dinosaur. This festive favorite also features celebrity guests, including *NSYNC’s Joey Fatone signing O Holy Night! All this merry singing, dancing and playing is so exciting even Jeff can’t sleep on Christmas Eve! Approximate run time 110 minutes with bonus content.
Our Thoughts: This DVD will definitely get you in the Christmas spirit if you need any help! I love the cultural focus and was happy Ireland was represented. The women signing in the church there were amazing! Were those actual Aboriginals dancing in Australia? After you watch it, let me know what you think!
