“Loki” is making one glorious return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, albeit it’s going to be on the streaming screen. Still, any chance to see the Asgardian God of Mischief is a good one. Tom Hiddleston reprises his role that he’s played since 2011. However, it’s not exactly the Loki we know. That’s because he’s a time variant who escaped his fate when he obtained the Tesseract during his arrest in the first “Avengers.”
Now captured by the Time Variance Agency or the TVA, Loki learns about his fate from Agent Mobius (Owen Wilson). Of course, Loki doesn’t precisely hold anyone who is more powerful than him in high regard. In fact, he mentions that he doesn’t like to talk so that he doesn’t have to chit-chat with Mobius. However, Agent Mobius uses that deadpan energy to match with Loki’s sharp tongue. The cold banter between the two is hilarious. It’s funny to see how Mobius mocks Loki’s penchant for gab, while Loki looks at him in complete disdain.
And the clip is more than just some promotional bit. It also helps us get an idea of who the TVA are. In it, Loki says the TVA agents, tasked with “protecting the sacred timeline,” are a part of “a little club that decides the fate of trillions of people across all existence at the behest of three space lizards.”
That’s when Mobius catches him off guard by pointing out that Loki just said he didn’t like to talk.
“Loki” is the third Marvel Studios limited series to debut on Disney+, after “WandaVision” and “The Falcon and The Winter Soldier.” Things will get a little tricky now that the MCU is diving into more stories that involve time travel. I can’t imagine the red strings that run across the walls in Marvel Studios story rooms. But any chance to see Loki again is a good one.
Sophia Di Martino, Richard E. Grant, Sasha Lane, and Gugu Mbatha-Raw also star.
Here’s the official plot synopsis for God of Mischief, “Loki:”
Watch Loki—the imperious God of Mischief—who, after absconding with the Tesseract, is a fish-out-of-water when he lands in a world of trouble with the bureaucratic TVA (Time Variance Authority) in the brand-new trailer for Marvel Studios’ “Loki.”
“Loki” makes its debut exclusively on Disney+ on June 9, 2021.
