Paramount Pictures has released a new trailer for “IF.” The family-friendly-adventure-comedy stars Ryan Reynolds and follows a little girl’s quest to reconnect forgotten imaginary friends with their original kids.
“IF’s” tagline is a story you have to see to believe. This is a fun play on what the film is about, considering adults could never see the imaginary friends that kids create. What’s fun about “IF” is that it doesn’t have to rely on any previous IP to bolster any interest. Instead, we can have fun watching the ever-so-charming Ryan Reynolds flex his comedic muscles in a film that is aimed towards a different demographic. It also helps that the guy is a father and would most likely want to star in something that they can see.
“IF” also has that classic Amblin vibe, where the coming-of-age film sees a child go on a one-of-a-kind adventure while tackling themes about growing up and losing your childhood. The fantastical side of it all comes from the unique look of all of the “IFs.” There’s Blue (Steve Carrell), a giant fuzzy blue beast with a tender heart. It’s an experience that everyone has to go through one point in their lives. The trailer also gives us a small glimpse of how the “Ifs” interact with people in the real world. There will be dancing numbers, synchronized diving, and plenty of adventures into worlds unknown.
Written and directed by Krasinski, who also has a role in “IF,” the film stars Cailey Fleming as the film’s chief protagonist who has the ability to see imaginary friends and is now tasked with reuniting the forgotten ones with their kids, Fiona Shaw, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Louis Gossett Jr., Alan Kim, Liza Colón-Zayas and Steve Carell.
Paramount Pictures has slated “IF” for a May 17, 2024, release.
