One of my favorite California destinations is Big Bear, a charming, mountainous, year-round getaway. I look for quaint accommodations with lake views, then enjoy dining in the Village after a long hike in nature. On a recent trip to Big Bear we experienced a first- the Alpine Slide at Magic Mountain in Big Bear Lake. My daughter would always ask about it when we’d drive by so she was excited to check it out! The park is open year round and offers snow play during the winter months and water fun during the summer plus a handful of thrilling rides including an Alpine Slide — Southern California’s only bobsled!
My favorite attraction was the Alpine Slide. I’m a bit of a chicken when it comes to rides so I have to admit I was initially anxious but I’m so glad I stepped out of my comfort zone. It was so fun! Riders take a relaxing chair lift ride to the top of the slide. Riders are treated to beautiful scenery as the lake comes into view to your left — definitely calming before you speed down the track! The Alpine slide offers two track options. The right is recommended for new riders or people who want to take it slow. The left for riders who are a little more daring. You do have control over the speed of the cart but do take caution as you can slip off the track. Riders must be a minimum of 36″ tall. Children 36″ to 48″ tall ride with an adult 18 years or older
The Soaring Eagle is a fun introductory ride for little thrill-seekers. Riders are lifted vertically and backwards before they soar high above the ground! There is a height restriction (42” minimum) and riders 42”-46” must ride with an adult.
I was surprised by all the attractions offered in the park, from go karts, mini golf to thrill rides that will delight guests of all ages.
Here’s a list of what is available:
ALPINE SLIDE
GO KARTS & MINI GOLF
MINESHAFT COASTER
SOARING EAGLE
SNOW PLAY (seasonal)
WATER SLIDE (seasonal)
Sign a release upon entrance then purchase ticket books or single tickets.
Tips- Cash only! I recommend visiting when the park opens. We were the first to ride the Alpine slide.
Alpine Slide at Magic Mountain is a must stop and we could’ve ridden the slides all day! We will definitely go back.
