We were invited to opening night for editorial purpuoses
Wow! Cirque du Soleil’s traveling show VOLTA is a wonderful experience combining a live-synthesized musical soundtrack, phenomenal gravity-defying acts and unique thematic elements even showcasing street sports! We connected with it on all levels- emotionally, physically and spiritually. As you watch the spectacle that is Volta you’ll leave with your own story.
Volta roars into actions with the audience participating in a faux-game show judging contestants and swaying Mr. Wow’s vote. One of the contestants’ “Waz” impressed the audience with his smooth dance moves until his unique quality is exposed and shunned. From there we are taken on a transforming journey through visuals, acrobatic scenes and melodic, pulsating music. As always, the music is live, and it’s a joy to see the musicians on stage sharing their craft with the other performers. Make sure to point this out to the young children you are with.
We are big fans of Cirque du Soleil and Volta is one of the best we have seen. The acting, imagery, action and forward thinking costumes combined with a retro/future synthwave soundtrack captured our heads and our hearts. We are always astounded by everything Cirque but Volta tunes into something different. It yearns for times gone by as we succumb to present realities and future techno revolutions. The loose story thread truly allows your own creative take and the Cirque performers and crew absolutely set a stage of imagination. And the addition of roller skating and BMX take Volta to new literal new heights.
Volta is performing under the big top at Dodger Stadium now through March 8. I highly recommend attending as a family. Children will be captivated by the beautiful performances that take place in the round. There isn’t a bad seat in the house! Plus, like in common Cirque style, there is comedic acts. I loved the laughter of the kids during the “clown” sequences. My daughter loved the scene with temperamental washing machines. They seemed to have a mind of their own! It was also cool to see performers make mistakes, reminding us that they are humans and the audience cheered on the acrobots as they tried to perfect their routines. Adults will tap into their inner-child as Volta tugs on our heartstrings. The shows sense of self-acceptance and realizing potential are inspiring messages for young people.
Volta is truly a family-friendly voyage. We had so much fun!
