After spending years in development hell, Warner Brothers’ “Black Adam,” starring Dwayne Johnson” is finally heading into production. And now we know when it arrives in theaters. Johnson took to Instagram on Sunday to announce that “Black Adam” hits theaters on July 29, 2022. One thing is for sure, “The hierarchy of power in the DC Universe is about to change.”
The release date announcement was all a part of a campaign that took place during the NCAA tournament on Sunday. Johnson also went on Instagram to post a showstopping video of Time Square’s massive screens shutting down to reveal the release date. This campaign looked to be quite an undertaking to make it happen. But if anyone could do it, flashy lightning bolts and all, it would be The Rock.

BLACK ADAM is coming July 29, 2022.
The hierarchy of power in the DC Universe is about to change.
Joining Johnson is Pierce Brosnan as Dr. Fate, Aldis Hodge as Hawkman, Noah Centineo as Atom Smasher, and Quintessa Swindell as Cyclone, with Marwan Kenzari playing the movie’s undisclosed villain.
While plot details of “Black Adam” have yet to be revealed, we know that it will take place during the days of the “Justice Society of America,” an early iteration of the Justice League. Before the JSA, Black Adam started as a corrupt power-hungry predecessor to “Shazam!,” who attempted to use his power to rule the world. But when the elder Shazam revoked his powers and banished him to a distant star, Black Adam spent the next 5000 years flying back to Earth to get his revenge. There the JSA will defend Earth against his rage, only to come together as a united front to defeat the film’s chief villain.
More recently, in the comics, Black Adam has been redefined as an anti-hero seeking to clear his name and reputation.
Jaume Collet-Serra directs, using a script written by Rory Haines and Sohrab Noshirvani. The two punched up a draft penned by Adam Sztykiel. Beau Flynn, Johnson, Hiram Garcia, Dany Garcia, and Scott Sheldon are producers.
