The thought of traveling to an entirely new world would be an excellent way to escape from our troubles. But this isn’t a vacation. It’s a place that can only be accessed by a secret chamber that takes the person to a far-off land untouched by man. As such, you have access to a world unlike our own and has unlimited potential. Amazon Studios’ “Night Sky” poses a question of what you would do if you had access to that kind of transportation that would take you to such a world.
The eight-episode series stars Academy Award winner Sissy Spacek (The Old Man and The Gun) and Academy Award winner J.K. Simmons (Being the Ricardos), as a married couple who discover such a chamber and have spent their lives protecting it from prying eyes. That is, until, a mysterious young man enters their lives forcing them to reevaluate their relationship to the chamber and learning that there’s more to it than they could have ever imagined.
Based on the premise alone, it sounds like a mystery drama full of time and space motifs. While some Amazon Prime shows have found success in the weekly release model, the streaming service will drop all eight episodes at once on May 20, 2022. This makes for a very bingeable series.

Spanning space and time, Night Sky follows Irene (Spacek) and Franklin York (Simmons), a couple who, years ago, discovered a chamber buried in their backyard which inexplicably leads to a strange, deserted planet. They’ve carefully guarded their secret ever since, but when an enigmatic young man (Chai Hansen, The Newsreader) enters their lives, the Yorks’ quiet existence is quickly upended…and the mystifying chamber they thought they knew so well turns out to be much more than they could ever have imagined.
Night Sky is a co-production of Amazon Studios and Legendary Television (Carnival Row, Paper Girls) and is written and co-executive produced by Holden Miller, with Daniel C. Connolly serving as showrunner and executive producer. Mosaic’s Jimmy Miller and Sam Hansen serve as executive producers, along with Emmy and BAFTA Award-winner Philip Martin.
So let’s see what awaits us in “Night Sky” when Amazon Prime releases the eight-episode series on May 20, 2022.
