Comedy sequels are hard to come by. Mostly because they run the risk of their jokes becoming repetitive and stale. But when it comes with the Borat sequel, you never know what to expect. Except maybe the some hilariously inappropriate behavior from Kazakhstan journalist and documentarian extraordinaire Borat. And Sacha Baron Cohen is back as the clueless reporter for the hilariously lengthy titled ‘Borat Subsequent Movie Film: Delivery of Prodigious Bride to American Regime for Make Benefit Once Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan.’
The fact that Cohen has come up with yet another sequel is somewhat surprising. However, this sequel reflects on the current social climate – which is rife with social unrest, political diverseness, racial tensions, police brutality, and the Coronavirus pandemic. Of course, the film is too big for someone like Borat. Everyone who has seen the original will instantly recognize him. It’s something that the film will address. Bu Cohen, as Borat, is still able to disguise himself under the Borat persona by using fat suits, wigs, etc. Even without those items to conceal his fake identity, that recognition isn’t as widespread, as Cohen can still pull off the trick of fooling people into revealing some embarrassing things.
All of that was captured through the same hidden camera and mockumentary techniques used in the first film. As the trailer will show, Borat finds himself at republican conventions, asking far-right conservatives if they are more afraid of the virus or Democrats. Not only that, but he has brought along his daughter along for the ride. And they find themselves in a hilarious situation where she accidentally eats a baby figure and goes to a religious clinic to see if they can remove it, while also implying that the pregnancy is the result of incest.
The film is relevant as it covers all of the current topics that are affecting the United States. And with the film being available on Amazon later this month, it seems to try to sway the vote in one particular way. As if the title wasn’t already a hint at who we should be voting for. So it should be interesting to see how it all plays out not only for critics but those within political circles.
