Tim Burton is known for directing quirky, dark fantasy films including such movies as Edward Scissorhands, Beetlejuice and one of my favorite animated movies, Frankenweenie. He recently “made his mark” and was immortalized by the movie industry, Fox Entertainment as well as a large group of lucky fans, at a Foot and Hand ceremony that went down at the TLC Chinese Theater on Hollywood Blvd. It was really cool to be a part of this unique celebration of a wonderful storyteller who likes “weird things”.
Winona Rider was in attendance and gave a heartwarming speech to introduce her long-time friend. She choked up during her tribute to him and credited Burton for starting her career. Winona’s recent work on the Netflix original series Stranger Things, where she plays a neurotic mom to a son who goes missing, is fabulous! I’ve grown up watching her and Tim’s movies therefore it was an honor to be there! Also at the ceremony was actor Martin Lindau!
Burton’s latest film Miss Peregrine’s Peculiar Children (rated PG 13) is a fantasy-adventure film based on Ransom Riggs’ best-selling books of the same name. My daughter and I screened it and WOW!! I was pleasantly surprised. My daughter loved Bronwyn Buntley and Emma’s peculiarities. She enjoyed seeing strong, young females in this mesmerizing film.
I’ll have ThatsItLA’s review for you soon, but you can be sure I do adore the story, the actors and the backdrops. It’s a must-see this September 30!
