Unsolved Mysteries is best known for that creepy score and host Robert Stack. He would narrate episodes that covered cold cases and paranormal phenomena. Since its debut in the late 1980s, the show has been resurrected and revamped. Now, after a near decade’s prolonged absence, the show is alive once more. And it’s all thanks to Netflix.
The streaming platform dropped a brand new trailer for the upcoming show which will fuse signature elements from the original series with contemporary immersive, character-driven storytelling. The 12 new episodes are rooted in the experiences of ordinary people who have lived the unthinkable — from the trauma of a loved one’s unexplained disappearance or horrific death to the shock of a bizarre paranormal encounter.
While the late Stack won’t be narrating with the signature voice, the trailer shows that many of the other elements will stay intact. Each episode usually had interviews with the real people involved plus some reenactments of the events. Though the production values of these reenactments weren’t very high, they featured some then unknowns who have since become A-list stars. These actors include Matthew McConaughey, Taran Killam, and Daniel Dae Kim. So it should be fun to see if Netflix gives the show the same treatment. My guess is that we will probably see a lot of Netflix stars.
Of course, Netflix is taking advantage of the people’s thirst for nostalgia. I remember a few cases, some of which involve paranormal activity, strange disappearances, and grizzly murders. Hopefully, Netflix will release a compilation of favorite cases.
Here’s the official plot synopsis for Unsolved Mysteries.
The iconic series UNSOLVED MYSTERIES is back! Fusing signature elements from the original series with contemporary immersive, character-driven storytelling, the 12 new episodes are rooted in the experiences of ordinary people who have lived the unthinkable — from the trauma of a loved one’s unexplained disappearance or horrific death, to the shock of a bizarre paranormal encounter. Alongside detectives and journalists, family members offer clues, present theories, and identify suspects, hoping one viewer holds the key to solving the mystery.
It should be interesting to see what each episode will cover, though.
The first six episodes of UNSOLVED MYSTERIES release globally on Netflix on July 1, 2020.
