SpongeBob has remained a very popular animated character throughout the years having endured the test of time and outlasting other animated series. Since its debut in 1999, the series has continued to grow and has expanded to theatrical films. Now Paramount has released the first trailer for its third film, The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge On The Run, which will see its title character in its first CGI animated feature.
But perhaps the biggest draw about the upcoming sequel is that Keanu Reeves will be in this as a sage who happens to be a sage.
I’ll admit that I was never a huge fan of the series, but that really hasn’t stopped its popularity from continuing to grow. Honestly, though, I can see its appeal because there is a sincere innocence to it. SpongeBob is clean and wholesome fun that doesn’t try to be heavyhanded with its message.
Tom Kenny, Bill Fagerbakke, Rodger Bumpass, Clancy Brown, Mr. Lawrence, Jill Talley, Mary Jo Catlett, Lori Alan, and Carolyn Lawrence all return to voice SpongeBob, Patrick Star, Squidward Tentacles, Eugene H. Krabs, Sheldon J. Plankton, Karen Plankton, Mrs. Puff, Pearl Krabs, and Sandy Cheeks, respectively.
The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge On The Run opens in theaters on May 20, 2020.
