Cats took over the blue carpet premiere of EuropaCorp’s film NINE LIVES in Hollywood. The purr-fect evening was filled with treats, furry friends and celebrities from the movie!
Kevin Spacey plays Tom Brand, a workaholic billionaire who skydives to work. He can’t see that he’s neglecting his family while working towards his skyscraper-sized goals. His beautiful daughter Rebecca (Melina Weissman) is turning 11 and Tom is clueless on what to get her. She has made him aware of her dream gift, a cat, but so far Tom has refused this idea because he despises them. He finally gives in as he and winds up at Felix Perkin’s (Christopher Walken) Purrfect Pet Shop.As you look around you realize that this isn’t your ordinary pet store. The self-proclaimed Cat Whisperer pairs Tom up with Mr. Fuzzypants. There’s something mystical and magical in the air and after a series of unfortunate events Tom winds up trapped in Mr. Fuzzypant’s body. Tom has to adapt to being a cat while seeing his life and family through new a new set of eyes.
Nine Lives is funny and heartwarming. My daughter and her friend laughed out loud through most of the film. It’s definitely a cute family-film and I always gauge the humor of a film by my daughter’s laughter. After all, these films are made for the kids. I also have to mention that the casting couldn’t be any more perfect, especially with Malina Weissman who could pass as Jennifer Garner’s daughter in real life.
“Best in Show” award definitely goes to the Cat stars of Instagram who make appearances in Nine Lives. I ran into two of them on the carpet- Fergie (@squish__duffy_fergie) and Waffles (@waffles_the_cat). They both have a huge social media audience and they definitely don’t let stardom get to them. They were calm, cool and collected in their strollers.
Being at a premiere usually means star sightings and we were lucky enough to get photos with Cheryl Hines who plays Tom’s obnoxious ex-wife. We also ran into Robbie Armell (plays Tom Brand’s son David) who was a doll.
Also, Talking Tom the Cat was in the house (my daughter is a big fan of him and Angela).
But, by far the real stars of the event were the shelter cats featured at the premier party by the Best Friends Animal Society. Guests were able to walk onto their mobile truck to meet cats available for adoption. I wish I could’ve taken them all home with me especially the 3 month old kittens. A beautiful tabby was missing an eye but he was super lovable. Consider adoption if you are looking for a pet. There are so many animals looking for a forever home.
Nine Lives is in theaters August 5th and stars Kevin Spacey, Jennifer Garner and Christopher Walken
