My, what a great, big gift we all get to unwrap on Christmas Day! The new movie, Into the Woods opens and just absorb, for a moment, the lineup of actors including Meryl Streep, Johnny Depp, Tracey Ullman, Chris Pine, Emily Blunt, Anna Kendrick and Christine Baranski. Do we really even care what the storyline will be with such actors? Not me. But a story it will be with a modern twist on several beloved Brothers Grimm fairy tales. Plots are intertwined with an overall message of being careful what you wish for because you might not like what you get. Instead, be grateful and content with what you have presently.
Into the Woods as a movie, is a takeoff of the long-running Broadway play with a musical score by Stephen Sondheim. I love, love, love musicals and seeing them on the screen, merely for the price of a movie ticket is such a treat.
Judging just by the trailer, the movie looks like it will be as big a visual treat, truly fairy-tale like, as it will be a treat of great acting, humor, cinematography and music.
Into the Woods opens on December 25, 2014. Go see it and make merry.
ABOUT: Into the Woods is a modern twist on several of the beloved Brothers Grimm fairy tales, intertwining the plots of a few choice stories and exploring the consequences of the characters’ wishes and quests. This humorous and heartfelt musical follows the classic tales of Cinderella (Anna Kendrick), Little Red Riding Hood (Lilla Crawford), Jack and the Beanstalk (Daniel Huttlestone), and Rapunzel (MacKenzie Mauzy), all tied together by an original story involving a Baker and his Wife (James Corden and Emily Blunt), their wish to begin a family and their interaction with the Witch (Meryl Streep), who has put a curse on them. Rob Marshall, the acclaimed filmmaker behind the Academy Award®-winning musical “Chicago” and Disney’s “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides,” directs the film, which is based on the Tony®-winning original musical by James Lapine, who also penned the screenplay, and legendary composer Stephen Sondheim, who provides the music and lyrics. Produced by John DeLuca, Marshall, “Wicked” producer Marc Platt and Callum McDougall.
