Netflix has released the newest trailer for The Kissing Booth 2. The sequel, starring Joey King, is an adaptation of the YA romance novel of the same name by Beth Reekles. In it, King reprises her role as Elle Evans, a high school senior who just spent the most romantic summer with a reformed bad boy Noah Flynn (Jacob Elordi). But now that Noah is off to Harvard, Elle has to juggle her long-distance relationship, which is also in danger of falling apart, and a possible new love interest.
Here’s the official plot synopsis for The Kissing Booth 2:
“Elle Evans (Joey King) just had the most romantic summer of her life with her reformed bad-boy boyfriend Noah Flynn (Jacob Elordi). But now Noah is off to Harvard, and Elle heads back to high school for her senior year. She’ll have to juggle a long-distance relationship, getting into her dream college with her best friend Lee (Joel Courtney), and the complications brought on by a close friendship with a handsome, charismatic new classmate named Marco (Taylor Zakhar Perez). When Noah grows close to a seemingly-perfect college girl (Maisie Richardson-Sellers), Elle will have to decide how much she trusts him and to whom her heart truly belongs. Director and screenwriter Vince Marcello returns for The Kissing Booth sequel, based on the “The Kissing Booth” books by Beth Reekles.”
The Kissing Booth saw Elle finally enter a relationship with her long time crush Noah. While critics saw the film as clichéd and trite, Netflix saw the teenage romantic comedy as a success due to its viewership. So, of course, they would follow it up with a sequel. And it looks like rather than have the usual long-distance relationship being an emotional burden; there will be a love triangle in the mix to keep things interesting. Well, interesting for a film like this.
But Elle’s coming of age story doesn’t just stop at the romance. She will have to discover what it means to be in a relationship and that love isn’t just something you see in films or hear in songs. Because who bases their idea of a relationship on those two things?
If anything, we know that Netflix provides some cheesy fun romantic comedy for all ages. As noted by To All The Boys I Loved Before, The Perfect Date, Always Be My Maybe, The Set Up, and more. They might not be good, but it’s the perfect comfort food for those looking so something fun and uncomplicated.
The Kissing Booth 2 also stars Joel Courtney, Taylor Zakhar Perez, Maisie Richardson-Sellers, and Molly Ringwald. It will premiere exclusively on Netflix on July 24, 2020.
