Marvel Studios is known to make some very big announcements on Saturdays in Hall H during every San Diego Comic-Con. And after missing the last two years, they certainly delivered by making some huge reveals, especially for “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.” But you can read more on that on our trailer coverage.
As Marvel has done before, they have split their time between the film side and Disney+ streaming side of things. Not only did Marvel Studios’ president Kevin Feige announce Phase Four ends with “Wakanda Forever,” he also announced that Phase 5 begins with “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania” and concludes with “Thunderbolts,” a Marvel version of the Suicide Squad.
So to kick things off, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige opened the panel with a little tease to “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.” The highly anticipated sequel brings in a new set of characters to join Scott Lang aka Ant-Man (Paul Rudd) and Hope Van Dyne (actor). Jonathan Majors also returns, reprising his role as a variant version of Kang. Bill Murray is also set to join in a yet-to-be-announced role. Also confirmed, Modok will appear.
After that, James Gunn appeared to talk a little bit about the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. The director confirmed that the finale installment of the trilogy marks the end of the story for Star-Lord and the rest of the gang. But just because it’s the end of their stories doesn’t mean they die, at least according to Gunn.
Gunn also confirmed that Gamora (Zoe Saldana) returns as the leader of the Ravangers. It’s not exactly clear where Star-Lord (Chris Pratt), Drax (Dave Bautista), Mantis (Pom Klementieff), Groot (Vin Diesel), and Rocket (Bradley Cooper). New cast members to join “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” are Chukwudi Iwuji as the High Evolutionary – the actor even came out in costume – and Maria Bakalova stars as Cosmo.
In other news, “Captain America: A New World Order” will premiere on May 3, 2024.
“Blade” drops in theaters on November 3, 2023.
“The Thunderbolts” conclude Phase 5 on July 26, 2024.
But those weren’t the biggest surprises. Not by a long shot. While Fantastic 4 has yet to be cast, the film is scheduled to be released in theaters on November 8, 2024. But, again, that’s not the surprise. The surprise is that we are getting not one, but two Avengers films in one year.
The first, is “Avengers: The Kang Dynasty” which will release on May 5, 2025, and further cementing Major’s Kang as the big bad villain. Next up, is “Avengers: Secret Wars,” which opens in theaters on November 8, 2025. With these two Avengers films, it should be noted that Phase 4 through 6 is all a part of the Multiverse Saga.
