Our visit was hosted. Opinions are our own!
Our summer vacation experiences went hi-tech when we visited Madame Tussauds Hollywood and their all NEW Virtual Room experience! This virtual experience is one of the world’s only collaborative virtual reality games. The up-to 4-player VR installation is found among the wax inhabitants of Madame Tussauds Hollywood!
My group of 3 were extremely excited to get “into” this new experience. We never had a VR experience, never-mind one that is collaborative! Collaborative VR is when participants in the game stand up and get to move around, search for items, manipulate objects and work together with your fellow team members.
The system inside Madame Tussauds uses up to four HTC Vives (the virtual reality gear headsets) with each person standing in 4 separate pods. You can see the other players in VR and hear them through microphones allowing complete communication. The headsets were bulky but comfy and with this being my first VR experience, I was concerned about getting a “sea-sick” type feeing as my eyes and brain become adjusted to the new environment. Happily, everyone in my group adjusted quickly and did not suffer any weird side effects. My first impression was a major “Wow!” as you can’t believe the depth, vastness and feeling you are in a “real” space.
The theme revolves around “Time Travel” and the storyline you follow is one where the future is dying due to some mishap and it is now up to your team to go back to various points in the past, complete tasks together and ultimately change history. Each player has a small room sized space to physically walk around inside with very specific VR visual warnings if you are getting too close to the wall! Some of the virtual destinations your team can visit include the moon for the 1969 Apollo landing, the Jurassic period, an ancient Egyptian area and a medieval dungeon.
The Madame Tussauds Hollywood all NEW Virtual Room experience was one of the most unique, mind-blowing fun as well as favorite summer-time adventure we’ve had so far. I cherished the amazing time my family had while we supported each other and solved puzzles in this fantastical digital domain together. I recommend a visit as it truly was a memory making family moment!
Tickets for the Virtual Room are currently not sold online and are available only on a walk up on a first come first serve basis. Prices subject to vary and change. CLICK HERE to check attraction hours before your visit.
