I love baked goods. All baked goods. Cookies, cake, bread, muffins, brownies…you name it, I’ll gladly eat it! So, it goes without saying that when I was offered the opportunity to attend the pre-opening events for the newest location of Sprinkles Cupcakes, I was more than happy to attend and share my experience with you!
The latest addition to the Sprinkles family is located right in the heart of Georgetown. Sprinkles is located in a fabulous location on M Street, amongst some of the area’s greatest restaurants and shopping. The store itself is cute with a modern twist, wood and glass with great pink accents which proudly displaying their cupcakes. The employees are as sweet as the cupcakes, and more than willing to help you choose which of the amazing cupcakes you want to take home with you.
Sprinkles had a sneak peak cupcake giveaway this past weekend. Everyone who was willing to wait in line was given two free cupcakes of their choice. So, my husband and I took the boys to enjoy some free cupcakes. What a fun way to spend family time together.
I have some tips to share with you. First, do not drive to Georgetown. We didn’t want to take the Metro (for the life of me, I can’t remember why), so we drove. It is pure chaos in Georgetown with very little parking, and the parking you can find is either time-sensitive or very expensive. I highly recommend taking the Metro, a bus, or do what we did and park over in Rosslyn and take a nice little stroll across the Key Bridge into Georgetown. Second, plan out how many cupcakes you want to buy before you go into the store. Once you’re greeted with the sweet smells and beautiful confections, you’ll be sugar- shocked and end up wanting to take home half the inventory! Lastly, make sure you take advantage of the sights around Sprinkles. Just a few doors down is The Old Stone House, which has a great little park attached with benches and grassy areas for your kiddos to run off their sugary treat.
I was also invited to a private pre-opening party at the new location. We were given a tour of the store’s showroom, kitchen, and party room. They had music, champagne, a station to frost and decorate your own cupcake, tables with cupcake displays, and hosts walking around with trays of mini cupcakes in different flavors to taste. The founder of Sprinkles (and a judge on Food Network’s “Cupcake Wars”), Candace Nelson, was in the kitchen graciously greeting all the attendees and answering questions. Eventually everyone gravitated toward the party room located above the store’s showroom. It was a very Hollywoodesque party with professional photographers and video cameras everywhere you looked. There were members of DC’s finest society there, as well as a few famous faces. I was able to meet Ali Wentworth, who is an actress and the wife of George Stephanopoulos. She was incredibly sweet and was sure to let us know about her own charity, BabyLove DC, and the fact that Sprinkles had graciously donated $25,000 to the cause.
The party was definitely the high point of my week! I got to sample several varieties of cupcakes, brought home a box of four full-sized cupcakes of my choice, and was given a “swag” box with a gift card in it, as well as the recipe and main ingredients in Sprinkles’ own chocolate frosting. It was a great night, and it gave me a great impression of this location as well as Sprinkles itself.
If you’re a DC resident or planning a trip to the nation’s capital, I recommend you head over to Georgetown and give Sprinkles a visit. The cupcakes are
out of this world delicious – moist, sweet but not too sweet, with a perfect ratio of frosting to cupcake (very important in my humble opinion). They have adorable Sprinkles t-shirts and onesies available for purchase. If you have a four-legged member of the family, they even have a line of doggie cupcakes and shirts available! This particular location is planning on having their party room available for private parties. It would be a great location for a kid’s birthday party or baby shower. You can either order personalized cupcakes for your party or host a “frosting party” where the guests can frost and decorate their own cupcakes. All in all, it’s a great addition to the DC area and I’m sure I’ll be taking my boys back for some more tasty treats in the not too distant future!
You can check Sprinkles out for yourself at www.sprinkles.com. The Georgetown store is located at 3015 M Street NW, and will be officially open for business on March 3rd!

I love Sprinkles! Thankfully, I’m not too far from the Beverly Hills shop. Our family goes regularly 🙂
Love, love their Red Velvet cupcakes! Delish.
