There are two things I love in life. The first is seeing my kids happy. Nothing makes me happier or more fulfilled as a mom than seeing my kids’ faces light up when they are truly happy about something. My second love? Target. Seriously. I love Target. We make weekly trips to “the popcorn store” (as Jack refers to it). I love the one-stop shopping that Target provides. I can get groceries, toys for the boys, floor mats for my car, sunscreen, and a garden hose all in one place. How great is that?
When I got the opportunity to try out a program that fuses my two loves, I was happy to oblige! Pull-Ups training pants and Target have teamed up to help all of us moms out there in the dreaded process of potty training. They’ve come up with a great concept to get your little ones motivated and excited about using the potty.
The first step is to check out Pull-Ups and get your child excited about using the potty. Pull-Ups feature some of the most beloved Disney characters on them, including the Princesses and Lightning McQueen. They offer your child the look of “big kid” undies, with the reassurance of an absorbent layer that will keep them dry should an accident happen. They come in different varieties, including those with designs that fade when wet, get cold when wet, or offer extra protection at nighttime. Not only are they a great tool to use while potty training, but their website offers great tips and incentives to help you along the way.
Now, this is where the partnership with Target comes into play. How would your child like to receive an encouraging phone call from the very character featured on their Pull-Ups (at no cost to you)?
Here’s how you make that happen. First, when it’s time for your weekly trip to your friendly neighborhood Target (I know I’m not alone here…we ALL love Target, right?), be sure to include Pull-Ups on your must-get list. Second, get your little one excited about the potty training process and let them choose some Pull-Ups featuring their favorite character. (In this house, with two boys, it’s most definitely Lightning McQueen.) Last, when you get home from your Target excursion, head on over to http://www.bigkidcalls.com. On this website with a few clicks of the mouse, you can schedule a “Disney Character Calls” to your little potty trainer from either Cinderella or one of Lightning McQueen’s pit crew, congratulating them on their potty success and encouraging them to keep training. Your little one will be thrilled when they receive a call from a beloved Princess or Lightning’s buddy.
I used Pull-Ups while training Jack. They worked great and he was potty trained in a matter of days. I definitely plan on using them when I work on potty training Nate, which will be happening all too soon. I set up one of the phone calls and let Jack listen. He was excited to be getting a call from Lightning’s race crew and was thrilled that they were excited about his potty training progress (even though he’s been trained for well over a year now). At 20 months, Nate is just starting to understand what the potty is used for and is still a bit too young to understand the call, but he gets excited about anything that Jack gets excited about, so it was a win-win. They both had big goofy grins on their faces while listening to their phone call. Like I said, nothing makes me happier than seeing them happy!
If you’re in the process of potty training, I highly recommend you head over to Target and pick up some Pull-Ups. Once you’ve begun the process, set up one of these phone calls for your child. They will love the encouragement…and let’s face it, anything that helps with potty training is awesome!

Hi! Love you blog! I am in the process of trying to potty train my almost 3 year old–while juggling an 8 month old at the same time. My older daughter, I feel, sees diaper changes as almost an attention getter so in some ways does not want to go on the potty. She sees her little sister getting changed and wants the same. So–we are making it an event when she sits on the potty..mommy and sister sit on the floor outside the bathroom and play so she’s still ‘in the spotlight’ lol. But–it’s definitely a process! One thing is for sure, my wallet will appreciate only having to buy diapers for one little one vs. two little ones for sure! 🙂
we use cloth diapers at home so quickly getting them off can be a bit of a challenge!

My son turned 2 in March and we are trying to potty train him. If we ask him sometimes he will use the potty. My first son practically potty trained himself and always wanted to use the potty. This time our second son doesn’t seem as interested. I need to keep being patient.

My best tip is to not get exasperated/frustrated and give up, and to try not to stress your child out. Thank you for the giveaway!
Starting when the child is ready makes the whole thing much easier for everyone.

I know that experts say not to give candy as a reward, but it worked with my son. He would go and be so happy with that candy. Our problem is night time. We make sure he goes to the potty before going to bed.

My tip is to not push, let your child set the pace. With 3 girls I tried it both ways and it was so much easier and smoother when we let my 3rd daughter set the pace. She as trained in a shorter amount of time and it was much less stressful on all of us.

I used stickers as a reward for using the potty and made a chart that after 10 stickers we would go to the library to take out a few children’s books to read. My daughter loved stickers and visiting the library. Our librarian was so sweet she made my daughter her own library card when she was 2 years old and she was thrilled to show it to her Daddy. 🙂

Put real underwear on your child from the beginning of training. (get a lot of inexpensive ones!) After your child has an accident or two in these – they will not like the feeling of being wet. Diapers & Pull-Ups are just too good at absorbing the wetness!

I found out that my son loved stickers! So I bought Cars, Spiderman, Elmo, (alright, I bought whatever caught his eye!) and he got a sticker every time he went to the potty. He was going every 20 minutes (if not more!) so that he could get a sticker to put on the top of his potty. Mind you, when we ran out of room there, he moved to the walls and big toilet. It was alot of fun scraping those off later on!

My Tip: Use stickers or a small reward (ex. a couple M&Ms) as an immediate reward for each success. Set a timer and make trips to the potty every 30-60 minutes. It’s a hassle, yes, but if you combine these two tips consistently, you’ll have success.

I’m having a hard time with my 2 1/2. maybe because she has a newborn brother? Her odler sister was much easier.
My son turned 4 in May, and we’re on what I hope is the tail end of potty training. It’s been a power struggle lately, and it has been incredibly challenging to overcome.

The problem with my children was concentration. 🙂 They quickly lost interest and wanted to go do something else. So my inventive husband took the tray from an old highchair and fashioned it to fit snugly on the potty, and then the kids were occupied with small toys while learning patience and to keep still until done. 🙂

My friend Jennifer has trained both of her daughters to use sign language for indicating that they need to use the potty.
She and her husband Andy did this by using the sign for toilet each time they put one of the girls on the potty and also using oral language(in this case, English) As a result both girls, (one aged six and the other still a toddler of 14 months) have been potty trained before the age of 2. Since children are great imitators, this method works remarkably well!
Do not be half-hearted. Once you decide to train (and feel the child is ready) do not go back!

One tip I’ve found works well is to rely on older siblings or cousins as positive role models – since they’ve been through potty training more recently and got through it, it’s great to have them help the younger ones along by giving them encouragement and telling them how “grown-up” they felt when they finally were able to go to the potty on their own. Thanks!

Positive reinforcement! They make a wee, they get one M&M or one Skittle. They poo, they got two, but there had to be evidence in the bowl. 🙂

Use a potty timer!
My tip is to use a sticker chart to help them, it worked for my little ones.
One problem I’m anticipating is that my daughter seems to do most of her peeing when she’s fast asleep.
Some potty training tips:
Make sure they are ready for this.
Try to train in spring/ summer when you can train in a nearly undressed state (fewer clothes to slow them down, get in the way).
Train in a spot with large washable floors that is very near when the urge comes : kitchen, laundry room, large bathroom.
Be patient. They will not wear diapers to college, I promise.
I am an email subscriber.
I follow via GFC: allibrary.
My daughter was going to be the first person in history to go to college with diapers. My neighbor suggested I bribe her with Hersheys Kisses. So every time the grandfather clock chimed a new hour, she would sit on the potty for 5 minutes, or until she went – whichever was shorter. Then she got a Hersheys Kiss. I feel like a horrible mother, but it worked!

Sticker rewards on a chart allow for instant reward but also a chance to look back and see a day or several days of awesomeness!
I think the worst part is sticking to your guns. It’s just so time consuming…it’s hard to stick to it, but you have to if you want to be successful!
The potty is too cold to my daughter.
tip – sing for the child, make it fun and play hit the target in the toidy, you can wad up toielt paper real tight and color them with kool-aid when playing hot the target, freeze them and just throw in toidy when ready
worst part is when they dont get it and you get frustrated
