It was a night of celebration at the 95th Academy Awards, where artists and other creatives were recognized for their achievements in acting and other technical works. 16 of the nominees are first-timers. What’s more, “Everything Everywhere All At Once’s” Michelle Yeoh, Stephanie Hsu and Ke Huy Quan, as well as “The Whale’s” Hong Chau make up for the largest line-up of Asian and Asian-American actors to be ever nominated in an Oscar year. And top-grossing films like “Top Gun: Maverick” and “Avatar: The Way of Water” are among those nominated for Best Picture.
There were some incredible wins tonight and a few surprises as well, but for all of those who are keeping score, here’s a small by the numbers break down. “All Quiet On The Western Front” was one of the big winners tonight, taking home four wins including Best International Feature, Best Cinematography, and Best Production Design.
Ruth E. Carter won Best Costume Design for her work in “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.” It was her second win, with her first being for “Black Panther.”
Guillermo del Toro’s “Pinocchio” won Best Animated Feature, while “The Boy, the Mile, the Fox, and the Horse,” won Best Animated Short, with “”An Irish Goodbye” winning Best Live-Action Short.
The phenomenal “RRR’s” “Naatu Naatu” won Best Song, and “Top Gun: Maverick” won Best Sound.
Brendan Fraiser took home the win for Best Actor for his performance in “The Whale.” “The Whale” won the award for Best Makeup.”
“Everything Everywhere All At Once” ended up winning seven of the 11 awards it was nominated for, including Ke Huy Quan for Best Supporting Actor, Jamie Lee Curtis for Best Supporting Actress, Best Score, Best Original Screenplay, Daniel Best Actress Michelle Yeoh, Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert for Best director, and Best Picture.
