Disney has released “Waiting On A Wish,” the first original song on their live-action adaptation of “Snow White” digitally on Amazon, Apple Music, Pandora, Spotify and other digital platforms.
Written by EGOT® winners Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, with additional lyrics by Jack Feldman. The song was produced by Benj Pasek, Justin Paul, Ian Eisendrath and Dave Metzger, and is performed by Rachel Zegler. “Waiting On A Wish” has garnered rave reactions since it was teased in the official movie trailer in December. Critics have hailed the song for being an instant Disney classic and delightful. Considering that it’s sung by West Side Story’s Rachel Zeiger, it should come as no surprise it’s being received so well.
The song, which is accompanied by a video of clips from the film, features Zeigler singing a ballad about distress, lonliness, and rising above the oppression One could hear the pains of feeling isolated and trapped within walls, communicating only to a family heirloom. During that time, the video gives our best look at a kingdom that was ruled by fairness. We also get to see the iconic wishing well, where she sings about hoping to live up to her royal eminence.
When the song takes a tonal shift to something more optimistic, the video sees Snow White be more hopeful and that to achieve such a dream sometimes requires more than just wishing.
If anything, this one song tells us Snow White’s soundtrack is something we should be listening to when it comes out later next week.
The original soundtrack of songs for Snow White will be released March 14, a week before the film arrives in theaters.
Producer Marc Platt said, “Benj and Justin came up with the idea of ‘Waiting On A Wish,’ inspired by the iconic wishing well first introduced to audiences in the animated ‘Snow White.’ They have written a truly beautiful song for our new film that is bound to become iconic in its own right.”
