Star Wars is the classic underdog story that sees just how mighty a tiny rebellion can be when up against the likes of the powerful Galactic Empire. And now we get to see where it all started in a brand-new trailer for the Diego Luna spy-driven series, “Andor.”
While this is a prequel series to the prequel film that is a part of the larger anthology of stories that are separate from the core trilogies, we will get to see just how far the Galactic Empire’s reach ranges, but also the will of the Rebellion and what they will do to bring peace to the galaxy. And since this is a series that centers around Cassian’s character, the trailer teases the spark that inspires him to join the rebellion. It’s also quite possible we could see what makes him the jaded spy that we see in “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.”
Tony Gilroy, who co-wrote the series with his brother Dan Gilory, and House of Card’s scribe Beau Willimon, serves as showrunner. Those who followed the production of “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” will remember how Tony Gilroy stepped in to salvage the Star Wars project with intense reshoots in 2016.
Though the first “Andor” trailer was a small sample of what’s to come, this new trailer gives us a better look at the size and scope of the show. Massive wide shots mountain rangers and of a Star Destroyer enveloping the sky gives us a sense of how big this show us – and makes a case for how these shows could look if given the big screen treatment. Not only that, we get to see the stakes. Of course, we already know what will happen to most of these characters. However, it doesn’t take away from the story as a whole since we are now seeing it fleshed out for the first time.
Luna returns as Cassian Andor and is joined by cast members Genevieve O’Reilly, Stellan Skarsgård, Adria Arjona, Denise Gough, Kyle Soller and Fiona Shaw. The executive producers are Kathleen Kennedy, Tony Gilroy, Sanne Wohlenberg, Diego Luna and Michelle Rejwan. Tony Gilroy is also the creator and showrunner.
Andor, which takes place prior to the events of “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story,” debuts exclusively on Disney+ on its new date, Wednesday, September 21, with a three-episode premiere.
