Marvel Studios has released the first trailer for Agatha All Along. The brand new “WandaVision” spinoff brings back Agatha Harkness (Kathryn Hahn), the delightful witch who preyed upon Wanda Maximoff’s emotional vulnerability so that she can use her power to stay one of the most powerful witches in the MCU.
In “Agatha All Along,” the infamous Agatha Harkness finds herself down and out of power after a suspicious goth Teen helps break her free from a distorted spell. Her interest is piqued when he begs her to take him on the legendary Witches’ Road, a magical gauntlet of trials that, if survived, rewards a witch with what they’re missing. Together, Agatha and this mysterious Teen pull together a desperate coven, and set off down, down, down The Road…
It should be interesting to see how this connects to the larger MCU Saga. Though, as we have seen before, not every new Marvel entry has to link to the current saga. IF that is the case, we could be in for something more character-driven. And that would be far more entertaining than something that is forced or feels like we have to watch to understand how the multiverse works.
Marvel Studios has demonstrated that they aren’t afraid to explore the horror genre through the superhero lens. WandaVision was among the first to tap into the scariness of it all as it utilized witchcraft in the limited series. Later on, Wanda came back as the tragic villain in “Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Maddness” who used her powers to find a universe where her children from her own universe would accept her. In that sequel, we saw the depths of which she would go to achieve her goal and the dark monsters and zombies that came with it. Then there was Michael Giacchino’s “Werewolf by Night,” which drew its inspiration from the classic Black and White monster films.
According to the press release, the series focuses on Kathryn Hahn’s character, Agatha Harkness, from the acclaimed Marvel Studios’ series “WandaVision,” as she sets off on a dangerous, mysterious adventure filled with trials and tribulations. Showrunner Jac Schaeffer, who was the creative force behind “WandaVision,” directs the pilot episode.
In addition to Kathryn Hahn, “Agatha All Along” stars Joe Locke, Sasheer Zamata, Ali Ahn, Maria Dizzia, Paul Adelstein, Miles Gutierrez-Riley, Okwui Okpokwasili, with Debra Jo Rupp, with Patti LuPone, and Aubrey Plaza. The executive producers are Kevin Feige, Louis D’Esposito, Brad Winderbaum, Mary Livanos and Jac Schaeffer. The directors for the series include Jac Schaeffer, Rachel Goldberg and Gandja Montiero.
Marvel Television’s “Agatha All Along” premieres September 18 at 6:00 p.m. PT/9:00 p.m. ET, with the first two episodes, exclusively on Disney+.
