Ever since the end of Spider-Man: No Way Home, Peter Parker (Tom Holland) has been living a life of seclusion following the personal sacrifice he made to erase his identity from everyone’s memories, including those of the people he loves. Of course, that all changes in Spider-Man: Brand New Day when his life as a crimefighter escalates to new heights, a dangerous new threat puts New York City at risk, and a mysterious mutation begins emerging from within Peter himself.

It’s a BRAND NEW DAY for Peter Parker. Fighting crime full-time as Spider-Man in a world that doesn’t remember him—and the pressure of seeing his old friends move on without him—sparks a change in Peter he may not have the power to control. But that transformation might also be the only thing that can stop a shocking new threat to the city and those he loves – a powerful villain no one can even see.
The world may have forgotten Peter Parker, but he hasn’t forgotten them.
The trailer opens with Spider-Man seemingly unable to control his powers and his attacks on the Scorpion (Michael Mando) are full of rage. Even Peter acknowledges that he is losing his mind and that he totally out of control.
Though he is disconnected himself from his friends through Doctor Strange’s spells, he isn’t completely cut off from them as he follows MJ (Zendaya) and Ned Leeds (Jacob Batalon) on social media. The two are living the time of their lives as MIT students. But it’s clear that he misses them. But those internal changes aren’t just homocidal tendencies, his powers are beginning to change to as his webbing from his wrists force his webshooters off.
Parker goes to Dr. Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo) for help, but is unclear how to keep the bad aspects and keep the good aspects of his powers. Banner questions Parker’s theory as how does one determine what is good and what is bad.
Soon, we get to see this faceless threat, so to speak as it is able to transfer its consciousness from one person to the next all the while commuicating with Spider-Man. It is almost as if this villain is mocking Spider-Man. That reaches a boiling point when the villian threatens MJ.
This time around the trailer appears to show that Punisher (Jon Bernthal) is more of an ally than comic relief. And after he rescues MJ, she has to convince the vigalante that Spidey is fighting a battle on his own. So it looks like Punisher may be giving Spidey some words of wisdom when he encounters a group of ninjas from “The Hand.” Of course, that may not happen at all considering how the trailer is cut.
“Spider-Man; Brand New Day” is set to premiere in theaters on July 31.
