Time travel is a tricky thing to explain but one hell of a thing to watch on the big screen. So, Warner Bros. and DC are going to have some fun with it in “The Flash.” And they’ve just revealed what they have in store for fans of the Synderverse in the form of a new trailer.
“The Flash” is a loose adaptation of the Flashpoint story arc and utilizes previous DC film entries to shape the film. Ezra Miller reprising his role as Barry Allen, an orphan boy with the superhero gift of super speed. Though the speedster has saved the world from certain doom, the person he wishes he could have saved his mother (Maribel Verdú ) and father (Ron Livingston), the former was murdered and the latter was blamed for it. As such, he wants to bring back the family that he had lost. So, in his grief, he runs so fast that he travels back in time to the specific point where he could save his mother. However, this undoes his present and thus presents him with a future where General Zod has returned.
With most of his friends gone, Barry has to find other heroes from across the multiverse. This includes Tim Burton’s Batman (Michael Keaton) and an imprisoned Supergirl (Sasha Calle). Together, they fight against the intergalactic warlord while trying to figure out how to undo what Barry did.
Of course, many are curious to know whether or not the events of “The Flash” connect to James Gunn’s new DC film universe. The new chief has gone on record saying that any films outside of his own are a part of Elseworlds, a set of DC films that are adjacent to his own.
“The Flash” also stars Kiersey Clemons (“Zack Snyder’s Justice League,” “Sweetheart”), Antje Traue (“King of Ravens,” “Man of Steel”).
Directed by Andy Muschietti (IT), who uses a script written by Christina Hodson (“Birds of Prey”), “The Flash” opens in theaters on June 14, 2023.
Here’s the plot synopsis for “The Flash:”
Worlds collide in “The Flash” when Barry uses his superpowers to travel back in time in order to change the events of the past. But when his attempt to save his family inadvertently alters the future, Barry becomes trapped in a reality in which General Zod has returned, threatening annihilation, and there are no Super Heroes to turn to. That is, unless Barry can coax a very different Batman out of retirement and rescue an imprisoned Kryptonian… albeit not the one he’s looking for. Ultimately, to save the world that he is in and return to the future that he knows, Barry’s only hope is to race for his life. But will making the ultimate sacrifice be enough to reset the universe?
