What’s my favorite part of a state fair? Eating!! This is the one time of year that I get to splurge and I do it with a smile! Recently, I attended The L.A. County Fair media preview and here are a list of some of the items that you can enjoy at this year’s fair. I have to admit that Chicken Charlie’s deep-fried Twinkie was my favorite of the evening. What can I say? I’m a dessert kind of gal!
Tasti Chips – Ok, not only am I a dessert girl but chips are my vice. Tasti Chips was my first stop. The chips are gluten free, made with California grown potatoes and are cooked in allergen free peanut oil. Top your Tasti Chips or eat them plain. Either way they are yummy!
Skinnygirl Bar & Food – Moms, stop by for a low-calorie cocktail. You deserve it!
Fresh Fries – Whether you are a vegetarian or craving a blooming onion this is the place to stop. Don’t worry carnivores, Brisket Sundaes are on hand for your BBQ obsession. Who knew that Mashed potatoes topped with brisket and a cherry tomato could be so adorable!
Chicken Charlie – Heck yeah! Bring on the deep-fried goodies! Again, the deep-fried Twinkie was heavenly. Top it with strawberry or chocolate syrup (insert smile here). We also tried the Krispy Kreme Hamburger. I have to admit the kids ate the doughnuts and left the meat! Who can resist a Krispy Kreme? Other items to try out are Krispey Kreme Sloppy Joes, Waffle Dogs and Totally Fried Bacon Wrapped pickles.
Cornucopia Café – All of this fair food will make you thirsty! Stop here for a delicious fruit smoothie, ice coffee or a cold beer! I highly recommend the mango smoothie. It will definitely cool you off!
10-Pound Buns – The simple ingredients (cheese, onion and garlic) are spread on my favorite bread- sourdough. YUM! Next step is to add a topping. You could play it safe and order The Original or if you have an adventurous appetite try The Bacon Nutella. My recommendation is The Pepperoni.
Harold & Belle’s to Geaux– This Creole restaurant is now roaming the streets and visiting the L.A. County Fair via food truck! Enjoy fried catfish, crawfish etouffe and bread pudding.
Monster Dogs – Corn dogs anyone? Enjoy a crispy battered classic here at Monster Dogs. What more do you need to know?
Ok, so you’re full now. What next? Enjoy rides, entertainment and of course- animals. Not only are there land animals but water mammals at Beneath the Sea with an underwater adventure! Make sure to check out the Sea Lion Splash show and the Live Shark Encounter. Being a Disney fan, I’m thrilled to visit Pencils to Pixels– the Art of Animation. Fairgoers get a chance to layout animation as well as add sound effects to cartoons! Fun! For more information visit www.lacountyfair.com and don’t forget to download the free L.A. County mobile app to help you plan out your day! Enjoy.
