Over the years, it’s amazing to see how food has changed. Yes, we will always have the same staples around (although…with Hostess closing their doors, it begs wondering what’s next), but the influx of super-foods that are far more Earth and body-friendly is a welcome addition to our kitchen cabinets.
My kids are cereal kids, and I’ll be the first to admit that when it’s late, and dinner has passed me by, cereal is one of my favorite go-tos. As much as I try to keep the sugar-filled boxes to a minimum, and include a variety of better-for-you selections, it’s hard to find the right balance between taste and better choices.
Nature’s Path has a fantastic selection of options for kids and cereal-loving grown-ups alike, and I was really excited to try out several of their products. The gluten free peanut butter & chocolate EnviroKidz Organic Leapin’ Lemurs had definite potential, as their flavor combination is by far, my favorite. The cereal was super-crunchy and it had a mild sweet taste. I’m sure that kids will love their taste, however, they didn’t pack that PB & chocolate kick that I oh-so-love. Plus, with only 10 ingredients, it’s a winner in my book! The outside as well as the inside of the box are covered with info about lemurs, games and ways to help the lemur population thrive. For the grown-ups, their Sunrise Crunchy Maple cereal was delicious, although, unfortunately, it definitely wasn’t popular with my kids.
Hands-down, my favorite Nature’s Path treat is their Vanilla Almond Flax Granola. Big, sweet, crunchy nuggets of granola, filled with almonds are awesome straight out of the box. However, I opted to make pancakes and throw the granola right in as they cooked. They were absolutely delicious topped with sliced bananas and honey.
The Pumpkin-N-spice chewy granola bars were a perfect mid-afternoon snack that steered me away from grabbing junk from the candy jar in my classroom. They were filled with nutty pumpkin seeds and the chewy texture was just what I needed to get me through a busy to and home to start dinner.
GMO-free foods for kids is so important because processed foods really are so different today than when we were growing up. As parents, it’s our job to fill our kitchens with foods that do more than taste good, and with variety of options from Nature’s Path Organic Foods, we don’t have any excuses! You can learn all about their products at http://us.naturespath.com/ and they are available at grocery stores across the country.
