Seeking to travel light and ensure a full night of zzzz while your little ones are away from home? My favorite all-time product is KidCo’s Peapod Plus Sleep Tent. My active three-year-old happily sleeps the night in her “special bed” everywhere from Grandma’s house to the Doubletree Suites. I especially love that it also serves as a clean play area when not in nighttime use. On our latest trip, both my kids filled it with toys and read stories in their tent during the day.
At 6.9 lbs and compact enough to fold into a shoulder-sized bag this has to be one of our smallest pieces of luggage. I can even stuff a pillow, sheet and a favorite stuffed penguin into the bag. The sleep tent includes an air mattress and coordinating sleeping bag, so sheets aren’t even necessary. The tent design has lots of zipper-down latches that offer much-needed ventilation. The product manufacturer say its great for the beach or park because of its UV protection and adjustable wind screens, but we haven’t used ours outdoors yet. My soon-to-be two year old is a more restless sleeper and still happily contained in his crib so we haven’t tried it out on him. But I look forward to the day I can leave the heavy pack-n-play behind and just carry along two tent beds.
In good conscience, I must admit some serious, calorie-burning sessions spent wrestling this “easy to fold” tent into its bag but it gets easier with experience. Retailing for about $85 and easily available on Amazon as well as other online retails, I regularly recommend giving it a shot to my traveling mommy friends.
