My 4 year old is always using my iPhone as a form of entertainment. What she doesn’t know is that I don’t mind. I have carefully chosen all of the apps based on educational content. Whenever she is reading a book or playing a game on my phone, she is having fun and learning.
I recently download a brand new book to test out called The Snow Ball. This preschool book app for iPad, iPhone, iPod Touch and Android devices is an interactive edition of the story written by David Steinberg. David Steinberg is an artist and producer on many animated features including The Land Before Time and Gnomeo and Juliet. He decided to have the app of his book The Snow Ball created as a memorial to the books illustrator, Liz Conrad. Liz sadly passed away from cancer. All of the proceeds from this app will go to American Cancer Society in her honor!
The Snow Ball app has two options for readers. Read-To-Me mode or Read-By-Myself mode which is perfect for any level reader! Adeline loves hearing stories through the iPhone. The bright illustrations are fun and engaging. She enjoyed seeing the bears move across the screen as the story was read to her. The story of the little polar bears playing in the snow and celebrating their snow day from school is sure to please any preschooler.
There is also a game that goes along with the book which is Adeline’s very favorite game! The Snow Ball: Penguins Attack features the same lovable polar bears from the story. The object is to get the polar bears across the ice to the Big Snow Ball Party. You need to avoid the holes and also knock down a few penguins on the way. I tried it out and found it a bit addicting! When I showed it to Adeline she instantly wanted to play herself. She really gets into it! The game is simple enough for her to play on her own. If you are looking for a great new app to download for your toddler or preschooler you should really check out The Snowball.
The Snow Ball: Penguin Attack game is Available for iPhone and iPad in iTunes and for Android devices.
