Marvel Studios has released the newest trailer for “The Fantastic Four: First Steps.” It reveals just how massive the MCU is with the film following Marvel’s first family of heroes living in a retro-futuristic 1960s world that is unlike anything we’ve ever seen in the MCU.

While the trailer gives us a better look at Reed Richards aka Mr. Fantastic (Pedro Pascal), Sue Storm aka the Invisible Woman (Vanessa Kirby), Johnny Storm aka the Human Torch (Joseph Quinn), and Ben Grimm aka The Thing (Ebon Moss-Bachrach), including giving a tease at how they got their powers, we also get our first look at Julia Garner’s Reimagined Silver Surfer.
The trailer opens with a talk show host hyping up the audience letting them know how we all know the story of how four brave astronauts head up into space and come back forever change. By then we already know that the Fantastic Four is taking place in a different universe and in a different time. The retro-futuristic 1960s visuals are reflective of that.
“Our city. Our planet owe a debt to these intrepid souls,” the host continues. “And while we can never repay them, we can certainly celebrate them.” The trailer continues with citizens and firefighters showing off their graditude to the superpowered first family.
Though they are seen as celebrities on camera, off camera, they are just an average family. And we seen glimpses of that when Johnny is upset with Reed and Sue arriving late for their weekly family dinner. Of course, the married couple have an excuse as Ben asks if Sue is pregnant. Johnny is excited knowing his sister is going to have a baby and jokingly says Reed is going to be a horrible father because he is out of his depth. Then he declares himself and Ben as the best uncles.

Sue assures Reed that they can do this and that nothing is going to change.
Of course, that isn’t exactly true, especially when the Silver Surfer arrives marking the planet for death.
She shows off just how powerful she is when she grounds a pursuing Johnny back to earth.
Reed fears that he brought this danger to earth since he stretched the bounds of space and they heard his calling. As NYC goes dark, we see journalists ask if the world is safe. And the usually intelligent Reed cannot give an answer. But Sue assures him that they will face this danger, together, as a family.
The last seconds of the trailer then showcases Johnny’s flight and flame powers, Ben’s rock body and super strength, Reed’s stretching abilities, and Sue’s force field projections.
It then closes with Reed saying they will protect them, showing a shift in tone.
“The Fantastic Four: First Steps” hits theaters July 25, 2025.
