Ed Note: I felt this review was perfect for my husband whose job revolves around sound. This is his opinion of the product along with my daughter’s. – Tee
I was very happy to get a chance to review the KidzSafe Volume Safe Headphones. These headphones help protect hearing with volume limiting technology from KonoAudio. More people listen to music with headphones than ever before. You cannot go through the day without seeing someone, especially kids, with earbuds or the newer, more fashionable headphones on. Being a musician and music fan, headphones have been a huge part of my personal and professional music existence. I use earbuds, studio headphones as well as in-ear monitors. ALL turned up way too loud! Why so loud? Well, loud music is a strong, measurable physical force and it gets you “pumped”! And with today’s technology the “loud” is getting louder! Unfortunately, I do not think our ears are evolving at the same pace as technology. Some of you may have noticed the “ringing” in your ears (tinnitus) does not go away as quickly as in the past. Tinnitus and hearing loss has always been a major concern for me as well as my music students. Some of my students play their mp3 players extremely loud as well as go to concerts and take zero precautions to protect their hearing. It will be quite the case study to see the level of hearing loss young people will experience in the future. So when the KidzSafe Volume Safe Headphones came our way, I thought this would be a great time to introduce my daughter to the joy of listening at safe levels of volume.
Regular headphones allow high decibel levels that can severely damage hearing. The maximum volume level of normal mp3 players exceeds 120 db. At this level you will experience damage after only 7.5 minutes! Car horns and sirens are also around 120db. Now of course music is equalized in a way that sounds better than horns and sirens, but you definitely listen to music a lot longer than honking your horn! KidszSafe headphones have a maximum volume of 85db, no matter how loud you increase the volume on your mp3 player or other audio source.
My daughter tried them on a recent flight to the East Coast. She used the headphones in an mp3 player as well as her MobiGo Touch Learning System. Teagan is almost 4 and wearing headphones is not something she is completely comfortable with yet. However, she used the KidzSafe headphones and when asked how well she could hear the music or sounds she said “fine”. I also tried them and at first noticed they sounded very soft to me. We were on an airplane and things always sound and feel different in a pressurized cabin at 35,000 feet! So I made sure to check them out after the flight. I listened to a few different genres of music to test out the versatility and thought the headphones sounded great! It was surprising when I could not make the volume louder and realized once again that I am used listening to music at a level much greater than 85db! The KidzSafe headphones are adjustable, very comfortable and do not squeeze your head or bother your outer ears after wearing them. I have tried to get Teagan to use other headphones but they never fit well and she does not like the feel. She has worn the KidzSafe headphones and has never complained that they hurt her ears. This a great time to introduce safe listening levels to my daughter plus how to care for your ears and hearing. The KidzSafe Volume Safe Headphones were a great tool to use! “Listen safe now…Hear great later!”

What a great idea for kids. Thanks for the very thorough review. I love your daughter’s sock monkey tattoo – very cute!
These sound great, I don’t know how many times I’ve had to yell at my kids to TURN IT DOWN, if I can hear it through their headphones on their ears, its’ WAY too loud! Will be checking these out!
These look perfect for my three year old! She is always listening to my iPod or her teenage sisters. I am always grabbing the ear buds to make sure it isn’t too loud! Great Review!
Thanks for this review. I was trying to decide between these and KidZ Gear headphones. It seems these 2 may be the best kids headphones and I haven’t seen a comparison review.
These KidzSafe headphones weren’t reviewed on Amazon and yours is the only review I found. The other ones, Kidz Gear, have more than 200 reviews on Amazon. It seems they get louder, but apparently, fit little heads better and have volume controls easily accessed by parents to make sure things aren’t getting too loud…but many say they broke easily. Kids may also be able to hear dialogue in movies better which gets softer and you can’t turn up the KidzSafe. Not sure if that’s good or bad.
After seeing your review, I am going to order both and do my own comparison! Thank you so much for your info!
