I have gone through a few charging cables over the years and the biggest problem with them is that they are just not durable. They end up cracking or breaking in areas, partly due to the materials used to encase the cable. The materials normally used is a bendable, rubbery, plastic-like material, which makes the cable flexible, but can be damaged after long-time repeated bending.
I’ve been trying out the SHIELD Stainless Steel Chainmail charging cable by [fuse] chicken for the past couple of months. It is a little different from other charging cables and it’s not because of what it does, but its durability and looks.
This charging cable was designed to be tough and durable. At first glance, you will immediately notice that the casing of the cable is covered with a metal mesh material. The cable is wrapped in over 10,000 stainless steel chainmail links, which contract and expand when bent. It also stayed pretty cool to the touch when I had accidentally left it out in the sun, for a few hours, during one of the hot summer days we recently had.
Inside the chainmail mesh, the power and data wire conduits are protected by a protective wrap, with an Anti-Interference Mylar Wrap and Anti-Interference Metal band.
A few other features:
• 1 Meter (3 feet) in length
• Lightweight and easy to carry around
• MFi Certified
• Limited Lifetime Warranty
I can see why it was the winner of iPhone Life Magazine’s Best of CES 2018.
The SHIELD Stainless Steel Chainmail charging cable retails for $34.95. You can purchase one directly from their website, Amazon or other retailers.
