Walt Disney Animation Studios’ “Strange World” promises to take audiences on a brand-new adventure unlike any other. In it, we see the voice talents of Jake Gyllenhaal, Dennis Quaid, Jaboukie Young-White, Gabrielle Union, and Lucy Liu describe what everyone will see in the upcoming film. And they have a lot to say.
According to the “Strange World” cast describe the film as: crazy, bizarre, adventurous, mysterious, thrilling, mind-blowing and, of course, strange. And it seems fitting as the look and feel of this unnamed titular setting feels like it was pulled from those pulp comics of the past.
But after they describe “Strange World” in “so many vocabulary words,” the featurette goes into what the audiences can expect to see from the film. “They venture into this very strange world,” Lucy Liu who plays Callisto Mal, Avalonia’s fearless leader, said. “There’s danger around every curve,” Dennis Quaid who plays Jaeger Clade, Searcher’s larger-than-life explorer father said. Of course, when everything wants to eat you and the water melts the flesh off your bones, it helps to have a flaethrower. At least that’s what Jaeger thinks.
Later the trailer delves into the film’s themes of family and legacy, as we hear a skittish but protective Searcher (Jake Gyllenhaal) ask how he is related to his father, Jaeger. But one of the most exciting things about the trailer is how we get to see the voice talent return to the recording booths. That’s something we haven’t seen in a few years considering how the cast and crew were forced to work from home due to the pandemic.
“It’s three generations learning to be okay with everyone charting their own course,” Gabrielle Union, who voices Meridian Clade, an accomplished pilot and Searcher’s partner in all things, said. “I love that.”
Featured stars include Jake Gyllenhaal, who lends his voice to Searcher Clade, a family man who finds himself out of his element on an unpredictable mission; Dennis Quaid, who voices Searcher’s larger-than-life explorer father, Jaeger; Jaboukie Young-White, who is the voice of Searcher’s 16-year-old, adventure-seeking son, Ethan; Gabrielle Union, who provides the voice of Meridian Clade, an accomplished pilot and Searcher’s partner in all things; and Lucy Liu, who voices Callisto Mal, Avalonia’s fearless leader who spearheads the exploration into the strange world. Opening in U.S. theaters this Nov. 23rd, the feature film introduces a legendary family of explorers, the Clades, as they attempt to navigate an uncharted, treacherous land alongside a motley crew that includes a mischievous blob, a three-legged dog and a slew of ravenous creatures.
