Lucasfilm has released the first trailer for the final season of Star Wars, “The Bad Batch.” The series followed Clone Force 99, a rogue group of clones on the run from the Empire, who are now looking for Omega, a captured team member, and a unique clone.
Long before Dave Filoni was the large creative force in expanding the Star Wars universe through animation, there was Genndy Tartakovsky’s “Clone Wars.” The series of shorts represented untold stories of an unexplored Star Wars universe during the Clone Wars. It also introduced a fearsome villain and sometimes ally of that era, Asajj Ventress.
Filoni’s animated series, from “The Clone Wars” to “Star Wars Rebels,” served as self-contained stories within the Skywalker Saga. As such, we saw some supporting characters become icons, and some newer characters, like Ahsoka and Rex, become fan favorites. And now “The Bad Batch,” those rogue elite clones with individual specialties, have joined their ranks.
However, Clone Force 99 won’t be alone, as familiar bounty hunters like Fennec Shand and Cad Bane will also appear. But perhaps the biggest teaser is towards the end when the trailer suddenly cuts to black, with Asajj Ventress’s saying in her bone-chilling voice: “I wasn’t planning on killing you, but you’re making it very tempting.” As the trailer lights up, we see her ignite her yellow lightsaber, deflecting what looks like blaster fire from Hunter.
“Star Wars: The Bad Batch” showcases a talented voice cast, including Dee Bradley Baker (“American Dad!”), Michelle Ang (“Fear the Walking Dead: Flight 462”), Keisha Castle-Hughes (“Whale Rider”), Jimmi Simpson (“Westworld”), Noshir Dalal (“It’s Pony”) and Wanda Sykes (“The Upshaws”).
“Star Wars: The Bad Batch” is executive produced by Dave Filoni (“Ahsoka,” “The Mandalorian”), Athena Portillo (“Star Wars: The Clone Wars,” “Star Wars Rebels”), Brad Rau (“Star Wars Rebels,” “Star Wars Resistance”), Jennifer Corbett (“Star Wars Resistance,” “NCIS”) and Carrie Beck (“Ahsoka,” “The Mandalorian”), with Josh Rimes (“Star Wars Resistance,” “Star Wars: Visions”) as co-executive producer and Alex Spotswood (“Star Wars: The Clone Wars,” “Star Wars Rebels”) as senior producer. Rau is also serving as supervising director with Corbett as head writer.
“Star Wars: The Bad Batch” debuts with the first three episodes on Wednesday, February 21, exclusively on Disney+.
