Disney and Lucasfilm have released the second trailer for Solo: A Han Solo Story. In the latest Star Wars spinoff, Alden Ehrenreich plays the titular Han Solo, who turned into a legendary cinematic character by the equally legendary Harrison Ford. In it, Solo must join a crew of misfits to go on a heist and retrieve a mysterious item for a galactic gangster. But in this high-stakes game, Solo learns that he cannot trust anyone, even those closest to him.
These spinoffs are designed to be “anthologies” to the Star Wars myth and do not take place within the core episodic Saga. They also focus on stories that may not involve the Jedi. Rogue One centered on the crew stealing the plans to the Death Star.
So in Solo, we will see how the young upstart got his reputation. Because not all hot shots make a name for themselves without a few mentors and building their craft. Here we will see Solo’s mistrust be embedded by his mentor Tobias Beckett (Woody Harrelson). And while we can expect to see more than a few dangers, we can rest easy knowing that he will have a few familiar faces go on this heist. Chewbacca and Lando Calrissian (Donald Glover) will also be a part of this galactic wild west adventure.
The latest trailer also gives us a sense that there are a few more layers to Qi’ra’s (Emilia Clarke) relationship to Solo. The femme fatale seems to have a history with the lovable rogue, and that this heist may rekindle a lost relationship or bring back some bad memories for the two.
But that isn’t the only thing to look forward to. The trailer even gives us a look at how Calrissian lost the Millennium Falcon to Solo in a game of Sabaac.
Overall, the newest trailer is a huge improvement over the first that we got during the Super Bowl. We have a better sense of the story and over all tone. Ehrenreich looks like he was made for this, while Glover is definitely going to provide a lot of scene-stealing moments. We even get a look at a potential love interest for Chewbacca. Which makes the spinoff that much sadder considering we know about the relationship statuses when we first meet them in A New Hope.
Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Joonas Suotamo, Thandie Newton, and Paul Bettany also star.
Solo: A Star Wars Story opens in theaters on May 25, 2018.
