There’s a bit of truth to the tagline, “in space no one can hear you scream.” The same can be said for “Scream VI’s” “In a city of millions, no one can hear you scream.” Paramount Pictures has released the newest trailer for the upcoming iconic horror franchise, which, for the first time ever, will be without its lead star, Neve Campbell.
Now the “Scream” franchise heads into a new direction as it moves out of Woodsboro, a city that’s been haunted by the Ghostface killer, and into New York City. And when you have a masked killer on the loose in the biggest city in the world during one of the busiest holidays of the year, you bet no one will hear you scream. And the city is the perfect setting as it follows other films like “Jason Takes Manhattan,” “C.H.U.D.,” “Maniac,” and more.
Though the “Scream” franchise is a slasher film, it has always been more of a social satire that uses horror as a backdrop. As such, it was a smart and self-aware film that always spoke to the current times. And, of course, the person behind the Ghostface mask is just as much of a mystery as the plot itself. Based on the plot synopsis in the provided e-mail, the gang is heading to New York City. But just because we don’t know why they are heading there doesn’t mean it changes the landscape. A new environment presents new dangers, and as the trailer teases, the gang cannot escape the masked killer.
Directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, written by James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick, with original franchise writer and creator Kevin Williamson returning as executive producer, “Scream VI” stars Courteney Cox, Melissa Barrera, Jenna Ortega, Mason Gooding, Hayden Panettiere and Jasmin Savoy Brown, who are all reprising their roles from previous installments. They will be joined by Dermot Mulroney, Henry Czerny, Samara Weaving and Tony Revolori.
