Robert Downey Jr., Jon Favreau, James Earl Jones, Bette Midler, Ming-Na Wen, and Hans Zimmer are just some of the stars who will be named as new members of Disney Legends. These legends are formally inducted at every D23 Expo, which is held every other year. All these legends are a part of the large Disney corporation whose subsidiaries include Marvel, Lucasfilm, and Pixar.
The full list of names that will be named as Disney Legends is Wing Chao, Robert Downey Jr., Jon Favreau, James Earl Jones, Bette Midler, Kenny Ortega, Barnette Ricci, Robin Roberts, Diane Sawyer, Ming-Na Wen, and Hans Zimmer. They will all be honored for their contributions to the Disney legacy.
The Disney Legends Awards program is a 32-year tradition of The Walt Disney Company, and the first Disney Legend was Fred MacMurray (The Shaggy Dog, The Absent-Minded Professor, The Happiest Millionaire), who was honored in 1987. The award ceremony is just one of the dozens of spectacular events Disney fans can enjoy during the three-day D23 Expo.
“The Disney Legends Award is the highest honor we can bestow; it’s a recognition of talent, a celebration of achievement, and an expression of profound gratitude to the remarkable men and women who have made an indelible mark on our company and our creative legacy,” said Iger, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, The Walt Disney Company. “This year’s honorees have earned a place in our hearts and our history for their significant contributions in film, television, and our theme parks around the world.”
Some of the most memorable names include Robert Downey Jr., who has been a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe since 2008 and delivered his last performance as the iconic Tony Stark in Avengers: Endgame.
Jon Favreau’s contributions helped bring in some of Disney’s biggest hits like The Jungle Book. And he is taking the same groundbreaking technology that he used to fully realized one of Disney’s greatest animated features to the upcoming reenvisioning of The Lion King.
James Earl Jones also joins the new class of Disney Legends. The actor is a legend who lives up to being a legend has been a part of both versions of The Lion King and Star Wars.
Finally, there’s Ming-Na Wen, the Asian actress who voiced Mulan in the 1998 titular animated film. I would be remiss to say that this is long overdue. But I guess better late than never.
Hosted by Disney Chairman and CEO Bob Iger, the Disney Legends Awards ceremony will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, August 23, in Hall D23 of the Anaheim Convention Center.
