Netflix has released the first trailer for The Devil All The Time. Tom Holland leads the new gothic thriller that also stars Robert Pattinson, Jason Clarke, and Riley Keough. But it doesn’t stop there. The film also stars Sebastian Stan, Bill Skarsgård, Mia Wasikowska, Harry Melling, Eliza Scanlen, Haley Bennett, and Pokey Lafarge. Based on Ray Pollock’s book of the same name, is directed by Antonio Campos (Christine).
The film will span two generations between World War II and the Vietnam War and will see how the stories of an ungodly preacher, a twisted couple, crooked sheriff intertwine around the young Arvil (Holland). One thing is sure, people will be hooked on Pattinson’s pronunciation of the word “delusions.”
All kidding aside, The Devil All The Time looks like it will be running for some major awards. The trailer already hints at the cast delivering some juicy performances. Everyone looks like they have something sinister they are hiding, and I cannot wait to see what secrets they all have. Furthermore, it is nice to see that a lot of them can be more than franchise roles. While Holland makes for an excellent Spider-Man – the best live-action one, it’s great to see that he can do something on a much smaller scale.
Of course, any awards consideration depends on how the campaign is run during these strange pandemic times. We will just have to wait and see how it is all done. But based on the trailer, it wouldn’t be surprising if Netflix did make a big push for it when that time comes.
Here is the official synopsis for The Devil All the Time:
“In Knockemstiff, Ohio and its neighboring backwoods, sinister characters — an unholy preacher (Robert Pattinson), twisted couple (Jason Clarke and Riley Keough), and crooked sheriff (Sebastian Stan) — converge around young Arvin Russell (Tom Holland) as he fights the evil forces that threaten him and his family. Spanning the time between World War II and the Vietnam war, director Antonio Campos’ THE DEVIL ALL THE TIME renders a seductive and horrific landscape that pits the just against the corrupted.”
The Devil All The Time debuts exclusively on Netflix on September 16, 2020.
