CHOC Children’s Hospital has provided life-saving medical treatments to Southern California kids for more than 50 years. Every year the hospital puts on the 5k CHOC “Walk In The Park” presented by Disneyland Resort. Participants walk for one common goal- to support the well-being of SoCal Kids. This year the walk happens over Halloween weekend. What a monstrous treat!!
One special child leads the walkers down Main Street, USA in the Disneyland Resort. This year the Walk’s ambassador is Timmaree Hicks. Timmaree was diagnosed with a rare form of eye cancer called orbital rhabdomyosarcoma. Timmaree passed away in 2008 a few days after her 9th bday.
Timmaree enjoyed painting rocks during her lengthy hospital stays at CHOC. She would draw cancer ribbons, which unknowingly, were symbolic pieces of art that wound up inspiring doctors, nurses and other patients that would visit her room to see her wonderful creations.
To celebrate Timmaree’s Legacy her mom and the Timmaree Team bring Rock Craft Day to CHOC the last Sunday of every month. They raise money to provide rock kits to the patients at the hospital. Also, the team will be there this weekend.
Timmaree will be with all of us in spirit at CHOC Walk in the Park. She represents all courageous children and families that are served by CHOC.
Almost 14,000 people will gather at the happiest place on earth to make magic. Can you think of a better place for this event to happen? Walt Disney himself was a champion for CHOC. Did you know that he was one of the early board of directors? I participated in the walk two years ago with my daughter. It was an honor to raise money towards this amazing cause and walk with the families and supporters at Disneyland. It was a memorable experience and who really gets to be at Disneyland before the park opens?? It’s definitely a unique experience and everyone is happy and inspired! This fundraiser is a wonderful opportunity for a community to come together as well as spend time in one of the most magical places.
Consider participating next year! This is a rewarding moment especially when you see all the kids faces and know that you are making a difference!
